Ways Around the Ship? (spoilers)

So, during the power outage on the bridge, you use that maintenance ladder thing to get to the rest of the ship. Using it changes the appearance in the central hub so there's a ladder visible immediately to the right of the bridge entrance.

You go with Hansen to the O'Brien, then come back. At some point shortly thereafter, in the central hub, you find the ladder exposed again. I had the feeling it had been closed up at some point, and indeed, I'm pretty sure if you examine it, the main character says they THOUGHT they had closed it, and you have the option of closing it up again. That's what I did.

Is the implication that the invader on the ship was using that ladder? In addition to the maintenance tunnels? As far as I can tell, the game never referenced anyone having trouble getting around the ship because I had closed up that ladder.

Considering that everyone you see traveling up and down the different levels of the ship uses the elevators and how awkward the player character finds using the ladder I don't think that anyone would use that method of transport if they didn't have to...
