Although the PC-98 is (in)famous for the level of adult content on the platform what we're focussing on when paying tribute to the aesthetic commonly associated with it is the impact its visuals have had on a western audience despite the vast majority of the titles never making it out of Japan.
The PC-98's content, eroge or otherwise, is lauded for its style and quality of pixel art and by coupling that to Gun-Dog's narrative and genre content we're hoping to bring the best of a very specific period in time to a wider audience,
I hope this helps explain why we've made the choice we did!
Thank you! We tried really hard to make sure that we were 'true' to old systems and aesthetics we were inspired by which can be tricky at times, but from your positive feedback it sounds like we managed it!
In terms of fan service we don't want to imply that we're above it or that it has no place in modern media. I think when done well and in a way that respects the audience then it can be a positive factor within a game. In the case of Gun-Dog we've tried to include some organic feeling and tactful content (like you mentioned) through the dialogue but because we want to bring the best of that era to a new audience we decided that overt / excessive fan service wasn't a direction that suited the game.
Either way, we're glad to hear it's not a deal breaker and that you enjoyed Gun-Dog! We hope to see you onboard again soon!
