Kind Words 2

Kind Words 2

This is not Reddit.
Gonna be honest here guys. This is not Reddit. This is not r/AITA or r/ask.

I know going around offering advices and judging internet stranger's life can be therapeutic, and you should feel free to join those communities, but Kind Words is different.

Don't make assumptions. Don't write things like 'get a job', then send. People are not machines, don't give them orders.

Not everyone can write amazing letters all the time, and I get it. But please refrains from repsponding just for the sake of it.

You don't get karmas or points to spend by posting a lot, this is not how it works. You don't have to respond to everything. I often only responds to requests that feels comfortable and relatable and trust the good people of the community will take care of the things I can't respond to.

If you want the game to remain a safe space or a comfort bubble, then make it a safe space and be kind.

That said, I just need to get this off my chest. Sorry if I offend. I am deleting and reporting all letters that has a 'reddit' vibe to it and that's that.

edit: changed the title because I want to express my point better.

I'm sorry you had some bad experiences with responses. Our community is pretty great, but I'm constantly working on ways to improve moderation. Thanks for your feedback.

usually when i had nothing to offer i simply wish that things get better and easier for those whose trouble i could not help. also wish that someone else can help them better.

It's all good. I went through a very bad experience on the 'r' site so I needed to vent a little. I know you guys are doing your best, but it's in the nature of online text to be misleading because they lacks verbal cues like tones...and things like this are bound to happen, so I don't think you should feel bad about it. I know a lot of users have been asking for a messaging system, but I feel that the current system is good cause it prevents things from escalating to harassment/arguments, so I hope that's gonna stay.

I totally get where you're coming from. KW really is a different kind of space, and it's meant to be supportive and chill, not about giving harsh advice or making snap judgments. It's all about empathy and kindness, so I think your point about not responding just for the sake of it is really valid. We should aim to make it a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing, without worrying about being told what to do or judged. Thanks for speaking up about this!

Why would you report other people's letters rather than doing the adult thing and just moving past them and interacting with the ones that DO interest you?

On the internet you control what you interact with. See something you don't like and you should just keep moving. Not report it over a word that hurts your feelings.

But I guess I know what to expect from people who need to keep their video gaming profile private.

When you report a letter in Kind Words, the creators are the ones who are reviewing it, and as you can see, Popcannibal replied to this post directly, it makes sense for them to be made aware so they can identify problems or people who are repeatedly rude. Its immature of you to attack OP directly for them simply making a post, you're right, this is the internet, you're not taking your own advice in your reply, and this specific corner of the internet is moderated. This is Popcannibals creation, and they make the rules.

Maybe the reason I'm keeping my profile private is because there's people on the internet who could not 'control what they interact with' and decided to go 'check me out' on my profile after seeing a post from me that they didn't like?

I was one of those people before, heck, I am still one now. It's not enough to leave an angry comment so I had to click on their profile to check out what kind of person they are so I can tell myself 'oh it's just another rando'. It's problematic, it helps no one, but I can't help it and I understand that you do too. Don't take this as me being condescending, but really, I think both of us can benefit greatly from moving on and not doing this, but hey, it's your life, you can do whatever you want, and if what you want is assuming things and getting passive-aggressive over a well-meaning post on the internet, knock yourself out.
