Videos & cutscenes not playing

I'm having this seemingly common issue with, when playing Thief 2 through steam, the videos and cutscenes never play at all. Whenever I start the game, and play through the missions, the game just cuts straight to the next mission briefing as if nothing happened. Even when I manually press the "Intro" option on the main menu, the screen cuts out for about a second, then opens the main menu again, no error messages at all.

I've looked around for solutions, and tried many of them. I've updated the Indeo codecs through the Looking Glass forums, I've tried all manner of running programs as administrator, tried the regindeo.bat idea found in another Thief-related forum, nothing seems to work.

I'm running the game through Steam on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. The game itself (and the Steam client) are installed in C:\Program Files (x86), which is where the regindeo.bat solution stopped working - I kept getting error messages saying the specific module couldn't be loaded.

Help?

Make sure you follow all the directions listed for simply fixing the cutscene bug. There were a few steps that involved changing some of TPs default settings so they didn't interfere with the app.

TP worked wonders for me. The game only became unplayable when I started messing with some of TPs functions, after I'd finished the story several times so I didn't mind.

Yeah, Tafferpatcher works for most people, so something must have gone wrong during installation. What does it do?
