Part of the game's appeal, to me, is the ability to plan my perfectly ordered, nicely laid out little farm. That means uniform fields with uniform crops, etc. If I know that I'll basically never have an entire field of one crop grow to maturity at the same time, then I'm probably not the targeted audience for the game.
I can't stand the thought of having to have rat traps all over the place either. Smh.
Since there is rat cage, seems like more things to try now
I haven't tried the rat cages yet, but I assume you're right about it being similar to the scarecrow in terms of mechanics. I just don't know if I will play with those things littered all over my farm.
You can however GREATLY benefit from this event as each rat spawned drops either a rat tail or rat fur upon being chased away and vanishing.
Rat fur sells for $50 and is an ingredient in the insta-grow potion.
Rat tails, thou they only sell for $15, are used to make alchemy cauldrons (gives you more alchemy regents) which are like beehives... but better (totems) and are used in the same insta-grow potion.
So a rat swarm, while devastating to crops, doesn't end your run.
