Few starter questions
Booted up, sorted settings and did some manoeuvring and shooting testing in the hideout, had a look at the starter kit in the stash and the market place. Going to sleep now but hopefully can run the first mission tomorrow sometime. I notice the starter stash gives you some duplicates of things. Wondering if you fail/lose a mission do you lose your gear? I'm wondering how much kit to take in with me (it sounds like a basic intro fetch quest) so was thinking maybe just an AK with a couple spare magazines, try and get in and out quietly and then maybe test out a little 'live practice' at the cusp of extraction so I can leg it if need be.

Wondering if it's worth me selling any of this duplicate stuff? Or buying anything before I go on my first run? All I was really considering was a suppressor. It would also presumably make sense to sell the 'revive injectors' as I'm alone so they're effectively useless to me?

Kind regards!

You lose everything if you die, that's why there's all that duplicate gear. It's kind of like soft iron man, you can continue if you still have stuff but I imagine if you're as bad as me you eventually need to reset.
The only thing you can't lose is materials you tag. Metal, concrete, food and oil.
I'm not good at this game. So at times I've been forced to go into missions with 1 rifle and 1 mag. Hoping i can kill 1 or 2 bad guys, that have guns ammo, and hopefully a backpack of some kind.
Be aware that you can deploy with a "Provided" loadout which is for free with the only caveat that you cannot loot additional stuff once in game (ie. your backpack will be empty once you exit the map) - but it might be a good way to learn the maps and complete missions without burning through your gear (or even get mission rewards to build back up your stash through those instead of resetting your char).

It is a toggle above your deploy button before you go into a map.
Ah I seee. Much appreciated dudes. On 1 hand I could just go in not carrying too much planning on staying as quiet as possible. On the other hand as I've just started, an immediate reset wouldn't matter so I could also load up to the teeth.

I must say though I love how they've done the inventory in this with stuff divided between your belt line, carrier/webbing and bergen, I've been hoping games would do this for decades honestly and now a couple actually are. Always found it immersion breaking AF that in most games (and honestly even in games where you can be killed with 1 round from a mile away) you can carry 12 magazines for each of your 3 or even 4 kinds of weapons and they're all just instantly available along with instant access to grenades, mines, new outfits, the kitchen sink etc.

Presumably if you keep the resources you tag you also keep your safehouse upgrades? I just did my first run basically pottering around for about an hour doing recce, grabbing anything that wasn't bolted down and periodically swapping things in and out. I didn't do the objective I just extracted with some stuff and had a bit of a firefight near the end. Now back at the safehouse I've realised I've got a few things for upgrades but there's certain things I guess I should be on the look out for which I've written down.

Seems to me that maybe the 'repair station' is the most sensible first upgrade? Seems your gear does degrade but attachments don't? Do suppressors? Seems not but there's not really any indication. Seems like armour degrades. How about the workbench for attachments? I'm not really sure if you can take things on or off without that as I have no means to try currently.
I got about 20 hours in it over the last few days so I can answer most of your questions. Everything that happens at safehouse you keep, everything in the field is lost if you die. So safehouse upgrades, materials resources (the ones that ping when you walk by them) and any gear in the stash remains regardless of dying. You should not worry too much about dying: there's ample cash and you can buy weapons from the marketplace even at start. A decent rifle is about 2-3K for me and I have over 100K just from the first few hours. You will learn which items are worth taking and extracting with for value as you play. Dying's a non-issue other than wasted time.

With regard to kit i take into a mission: One Rifle, Two Mags, 2 Bandages, 1 Health Injector, and any keys I may have for the zone (you'll see them start dropping 10 hours in or so) Some small advice: each zone has different faction NPCs operating, and they have specific weapons related to that faction. As such, it makes sense to kit for a specific caliber that you know will be abundant in the zone you are planning to deploy with.

Gear that deteriorates/needs repairing: Guns, Helmet, Armor. Attachments (including supressors) do not deteriorate and do not need fixing. Once you get the repair station up and running you can repair guns with WD40 + Duct Tape and Armor with Armor Plates and Sewing kits. Armor has tiers that are progressively more expensive to repair. You find armor in the world like every other item so I would not worry too much about this either. Don't bother repairing guns you find on dead NPCS.. not worth. You find full condition gear in chests.

Also once you binge this game you should check out Grey Zone Warfare. That's the game that lead me to this game and I'm passing the favor forward. Both bangers, both very worth it. AI is better in this game tho, imo.

Appreciate the reply. Yeah I've still not bought anything but sold some of the junk that didn't say it was for safehouse upgrades. I was toying with the idea of selling the pistols and MP5's and just keeping one of the pistols as well as at least 1 of the duplicate bergens.

I think I'll buy a suppressor then if they don't degrade at all. Think I took in the AK with 3 mags and the pistol. It's kinda self-contained in it's own slot so it's not really a burden if you're not taking extra ammo for it. I took 1 of each of the health items as I've read how they work but wasn't sure how accurate it would be in implementation.

I remember at one point I was hiding inside a hedge in the middle of nowhere looking at the tablet and I heard voices and hit sounds and screen shakes and for a split second I didn't even put it away I just thought "ha I balls'd that one I'm about to die" but then there were more and more and I'm like I'm not dead so I legged it on a bit evasion, found a hiding spot, checked myself over and my health was maxed and my helmet and plates were at 100% so I was like hmm so I wasn't hit.... I guess your character kinda reacts and gets jumped/disorientated when rounds are hitting around him? Seems like a nice touch if so.

Are there any binoculars in game? Or is it pretty much just down to finding some kind of optic?
You lose your equipped gear but I say take all your best stuff!
I tried taking minimal loadouts and looting what I was missing but it was just too much scraping by and not getting anything done.
Now I play on harder settings till I've lost all my stuff and I'm out of $$.
Then I lower it and farm new stuff..
Those harder settings provide some truly epic shootouts.

I've not dabbled with the settings yet. As I said initially I usually max everything out because I'm a bit of a survival/realism fanatic. The only slight snag is in some games maxed out 'hard' or 'realism' sometimes has really glaring logical inconsistencies like ridiculously fast degradation of things or completely non-existent huds that can't even be contextually toggled to check things. Stuff like that grinds me a bit because it actually makes it harder and more awkward than 'the real thing' rather than trying to create a stimulating approximation. Is my helmet, ♥♥♥♥ I can't tell unless I find a safe spot and open my bag, bring out my inventory and check the little square where my helmet is, oh there it is! I am in fact wearing my helmet. Jolly good. Whereas in real life you....
