Provided gear - returning from successful raid no gear?

New player here, im not sure what im missing. I selected the provided gear on 2 occasions and extracted successfully - i load back in and you can see your fists - no loot on me or in my stash. What am i missing?

I wondered the same thing. I think you can only do quests with the provided gear... So... What I did after being sniped several times out of nowhere and chased by AI that should not have known where I was... I loaded in with just one mag for my gun. Found and killed the first couple bad guys by a dig site and looted them. Then, I went to another hotspot, killed the guy outside, popped off another shot then ran away firing blindly. Now that I had more ammo, went into a building, up some stairs and waited. They followed me up the stairs. One after the other I killed them. Waited for downtime, then took their weapons if they had different ammo. Just stacked up body after body. Queued up "Let the bodies hit the floor" and all was well with the world. Aliens or not.

So if you go free kit, looting is completely pointless. Oh, if you need to find an item, like a cigar, I think you can bring that. Quest items. Unless I am mistaken. Would kinda suck if you couldnt bring quest items back.

Read the warning messages around the "Provided loadout" button as it explains what you've just experienced.

If you are losing quest items however, that's a bug.

To be honest Provided Gear is really outdated design for post-1.3...

The exact in game msg about provided gear reads "The Provided Loadout option serves as a default loadout lent by the vendor. You are still able to receive mission rewards, but all loot taken out with you will be confiscated.".
I expected to keep what i looted but i did wonder what would happen after i dropped and replaced everything from the loadout. Lost a motherboard on that run so that's not considered "mission reward" apparently.
I never tried it again... Seems like the arcade option.
