ADS is an acronym for "Aim Down Sights" and is simply the most reliable way to accurately aim your weapon. However, it comes with the downside of being slower to ready, lower, and track your weapon on target, which can be critical when milliseconds matter on whether your character lives or dies (especially if the difficulty is cranked or an enemy goes full-auto at point blank range, in IRR). Aiming stamina is also drained faster in this mode.
Point Shooting is quick to raise and lower, because you're not moving the weapon as far, and it's also faster at tracking a moving target, especially in close quarters. However, unless you have a laser, a dedicated reflex sight on a 45 degree rail adapter, a dedicated reflex sight on the Steyr AUG's secondary sight location, and/or using the "secondary" sight when your zoom is toggled off on the HHS-1 sight, then your shots are not reliably accurate. The aiming stamina is not drained as fast in this mode, but with a lighter weapon the difference is negligible.
Hopefully that's helpful for you.
