Red River VS SP Tarkov
Not here for the clowns, trolls or discourse, just wondering if it'll suit my tastes.

For people who've tried both, what are the major differences between this game and SP Tarkov?

The coop is obviously a huge plus for Red River, but the modding scene for SP Tarkov is so immense that I worry there won't be enough to keep me playing for 10+ or 100+ hours.

I've obviously been burned before and paid far more for games I played far less than a 100 hours, but is this game worth a spin?

Please keep the discussion civil.

At current stage, SPT is way better than Red River tbh, with those AI and Realism mods in SPT made the game way intense when playing alone than Red River, the AI very bare bone here. But considered this is an early access PVE focused and COOP available, I will give this game a chance to reach as good as SPT or better in future.

That's a really fair take, and similar to what I thought after some research.

Besides coop, do you think this game has any upper hand on SPT currently?
Or would you recommend giving it some time to cook before jumping in?

I appreciate your response!

SPT:
+ Has a coop mod called SIT (Stay In Tarkov[github.com]), requires extra setup
+ Much more finished because its built on the back of Tarkov itself
+ Mods
- Runs like ass
- Requires you to own Tarkov, which costs more

Red River:
+ Coop is native and works well from immediate testing
+ Runs much better than Tarkov
+ On Steam
- Much less content than Tarkov
- AI not as good, dont roam from set POI's (at least from my experience)
- Opinion: No pockets is annoying. I'd like to do a no-gear run
- Buggier than Tarkov

All in all if you already own Tarkov, I'd stick with that for the immediate future unless you want to buy RR as a way to support the devs for what theyre working on. The bones are here absolutely, it just doesnt have the meat SPT has

I do already own Tarkov, which is part of why I'm in-between. On the other hand, 13 doubloons to give this a spin isn't that big of an ask to just sate my curiosity. If it's questionable, I can hopefully come back in a years time and get the rest of my moneys worth.

It's interesting you say it runs better for you than Tarkov, I've read a lot of problematic posts from people who seem to be less fortunate than you.
Regardless, you've shed some valuable insight on the difference between the two games, and it's much appreciated.

Everything everyone said above is where its at but if you want a taste you can buy the game play a few runs and refund if you don't like it since the systems are pretty similar to tarkov and you don't need to waste much time to go in the action if you're already familiar with such, i'd say don't go in expecting quality since this is pretty much just a skeleton of a game but with a lot of potential

their drivers could be out of date, I was getting 15 FPS before updating my drivers, after update I was getting smooth 60.

can i find cool ♥♥♥♥ and upgrade a hideout, do quests like tarkov? sell gpus? or is it, go in kill ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ai and get out with guns.

Very much a barebones game at this stage. There isn't much to do really other than run in, do the quests and extract. Beyond that it's yawn city compared to Tarkov...
Digital Fulcrum Apr 10, 2024 @ 10:03pm
This game has some potential but its really simple compared to tarkov. Take pain pills to litterally recovery HP. I think this game isnt really a "realism" shooter, but a shooter that just use realistic weapons and a tarkov like inventory system (personally I enjoy that though).

I want to see this game develop more but if I have to tell people, I honestly tell them to hold off on getting it right away. There just isnt a lot to do with it but the potential is there.

This game will clearly be less developed than Tarkov. Especially SPTarkov considering SPTarkov is multiple mods made by thousands of people. Also Tarkov is triple the price of this game and still isn't worth the money with how rampant cheaters are on that ♥♥♥♥. For 13 dollars and a 100% single player/coop experience created and tailored for that, this game will be better than SPTarkov eventually. Will it take 7 years like Tarkov? Maybe. But for 13 USD you can't go wrong if you're looking for a Tarkov-ish game. This game runs infinitely better than Tarkov. The audio isn't absolute trash like Tarkov. Doesn't take 15 minutes to load into a match. Get the same AI as Tarkov, Some ignorant AI mashed with aimbot AI. This game also has an in game map that tracks where you and teammates are as well as nameplates to show where and who your teammates are. Game is "barebones" in content, but the framework and intricate parts are better than Tarkov. Plus it's kind of eh to compare a game 10 years in development with millions of mods to a game that's been out 12 hours but, I understand the wanting to know. If you aren't poor and can spare a McDonald's meal it's worth the price. I also say this as I have 9.5 hours on this game already and the only true annoying thing in the game is the "connectivity to host" issues the devs are already aware of and patching. Also the devs stopped by streams on Twitch and asked for feedback. Not many devs do that. Also they aren't banning people with constructive complaints like Project L33t.

The people complaining about performance almost always have minimum specs. Almost every time I have seen a post about it. Also I did see people with i9-13000 and 14000 complaining about blue screen crashing. So it might be an intel issue. The game on most pc's above minimum specs should have no issues. I can run the game on ultra settings and have zero issues to include FPS drop. This game absolutely runs 200x better than Tarkov even right now on launch day.

It's 13 USD wtf do you expect? Tarkov for 13 dollars? 13 dollars for a game that's well worth 13 dollars right now and has the potential to be better than SPTarkov seems like a steal. Plus the roadmap they released on launch seems like it will be and play exactly how Tarkov plays. How people praise Tarkov and it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and ♥♥♥♥ on games being made like Tarkov is wild to me.
Ninisty Apr 10, 2024 @ 11:53pm
It's bare bones, I won't refund it though. I want single player/coop extractions to succeed. Love extraction games, hate the pvp community it brings.
