Some questions
1. I take it the voice overs are placeholders anyway but it seems a bit odd that the enemies sound like standard Americans. But maybe the Americans are the bad guys here? What is the player's country of origin then?

2. The inventory is like copypasted from Tarkov, up to how weapon attachments are shown etc. After having put many, many, way too many hours into Tarkov, I'm not really intrigued by staring at the same UI again. Are there plans for another UI and if so, how high is this on the priority list?

3. This game takes place in Vietnam but I couldn't help but wonder that the whole arsenal seems like US vs Russia (again just like Tarkov). Where are the Vietnamese weapons? The Chinese? Is more immersion in that regard planned or is Vietnam just scenery?

The Vietnamese used mostly AKs and SKSs in the Vietnam war

This game is not set during the Vietnam War...

EDIT: From the store page:

"However, the Soviet Union's collapse in 1990 leaves Vietnam vulnerable. Western economic infiltration and cultural transformation begins to shift Vietnam's geopolitical landscape. By 2013, China's interest in Vietnam intensified, resulting in the formation of a China backed Vietnam Communist Union Party. A front for a private military organization designed to sabotage Western influences. Over the next 2 years, covert and black-ops conflict between the US and China lead to Vietnam's societal collapse. International intervention started in 2015, but degraded over the next 3 years into conflict involving various PMCs and militias, driven more by profit and opportunism than by governmental allegiances, set against the backdrop of a once-prosperous country now engulfed in lawlessness and war."

I am just very tired of having the same SCARs, Vectors, M4s and AKs over and over and over again. Why not introduce some new weapons for a change? Especially when you're going with an 'exotic' setting in the first place.

Correct but there are still going to mostly be AKs and stuff like that laying around from that period of time. Doesn't say that war never happened afaik. Regardless the Chinese would mostly be using AKs etc at this time anyway as would the Vietnamese. Not sure what guns you would expect to be used

Do you even have the slightest clue what the small arms of those two countries look like today? VN manufactures their own standard issue rifle, based on the Israeli Galil SAR. The Chinese are using a variety of bullpup and non-bullpup guns of their own design.

And sure, some "AKs" as you call them are still around but they differ - at times hugely - from what is depicted in this game. Just because something looks like an "AK" to the untrained eyed, it doesn't mean it's automatically an AKMS or AK-74n.

So it is either lazy research, an unwillingness to actually fleshen out the whole Vietnam premise or there simply weren't any non-generic weapon assets to buy on the market.

Or, I'm wrong and all of this is planned.

Dude the difference in modern AKs vs the old Chinese and Russian ones is minimal for the average person who will be playing this game, it's not worth the dev going that in depth , it's a tiny studio. Yes China uses their weird bull pups but that's the military, the random bandit groups and militias etc wouldn't really be using those and would probably be using Chinese or Russian AK pattern rifles. Not to mention the newest Chinese rifles appear to be absolute junk that keyhole pretty badly

Tarkov's UI isn't very unique...

You're just illiterate when it comes to the small arms used in that region of the world, aren't you? I mean, I even gave you the hints so needn't trouble yourself with googleing it for yourself. And yet you doubled down once again on the "AKs".

Name me one other game that has that grid inventory like Tarkov, the same way backpacks and vests work, and most notably how attachments are shown when you double click on a weapon.

No what I'm saying is 1) this region of the world uses.AK pattern rifles historically and 2) it doesn't make a difference for a proof of concept like this. You're nit picking.

Yes, how dare I demand a new game has its own UI? That's just crazy, bro .

1. Historically, people there used muskets and sticks. So why aren't there any sticks and muskets in the game?

2. Why proof of concept? Is this game a proof of concept?
CauseOfDeath0 Apr 10, 2024 @ 1:28pm
It's early access so yes it's basically a proof of concept for what they want to do with the game... Youre mad about UI and the fact that the guns aren't exactly what you think they should be, like if those are your only complaints about an EA game you're just being pedantic
