And i stopped playing with randoms. I just do solo runs and take things slow but happy to do some coop if online at the same time.
Your plate carrier has to have at least one empty magazine slot that will fit the mag you're reloading, else it goes onto the ground. Your backpack does not factor into this.
Personally I think this Tarkov-style mechanic is a bit weird, since IRL it's very possible to reload and insert the old mag back into the same mag pouch.
This. The game needs to have two different reloads: a fast reload which results in the empty mag falling to the ground and a slower administrative reload which swaps the mag in the weapon for a mag in your plate carrier, with the empty magazine not being dropped.
The normal reload would be slightly slower because of the stow mechanic.
This is exactly what i'd expect.
I can't remember what game does this already - i think Insurgency: Sandstorm?
But as above i'd love to see it work like this:
But you double tap for a fast reload which drops the mag (and anything left in it) no matter what.
Single press of R for a normal reload, but it stows the mag.
Otherwise what is the point of being able to empty mags and refill them? One of the great things about Tarkov (and Gray Zone) is when you are looting you can just take ammo only and refill your empties.
It's just that they for some reason decided to force a quick reload if there's not enough space for the old mag in the vest as the old one checks for free space before the new one gets taken out.
So it really sounds like that check just needs to happen AFTER the new mag is taken out.
That would really be better for QOL.
I know it can be argued that you would have to take the new one out first to make space for the old one but its a game and so i think people would be ok with that.
Do the devs read here at all or is there a better place for feedback?
And yes, the check should happen the other way around, it'
s easy to work around but it still always feels wrong to have open slots by force.
The physical magazine model is also slower than the hand animation so doing a reload shows a magazine floating in to the weapon. I'm sure that bug will get ironed out eventually.
I swear I tried that in-game and double tapping did nothing. I need to do more experimentation.
I stand corrected. There is a double tap, to drop current mag. Sweet.
For me personally, I like having as much ammo as possible so its always a full vest. Luckily, there is no delay in picking up dropped mags so with practice, you can perform a speed reload and pick up the old mag before your character finishes the loading animation.
