Thief Gold

Thief The Dark Project 1998 is better than Thief Gold 1999
Because the pacing seems better. Though i hope they replace dinosaurs in Lost City with crab people. Seems more fitting

Gold is really hit or miss. IIRC there is only 1 level from it I liked. Rest was meh.

I guess if they remove the thieves guilt don’t hate it but not needed. But the levels for each stone is great and adds more to the game world. Only levels I would skip is probably cathedral maps they suck on expert and are in both versions. I’m starting to believe you just hate Dino’s in general.

I disagree I like Gold more
I understand why people prefer the original, but I much prefer Gold. The Mage Towers is one of the most atmospheric and enjoyable levels in the series for me. The Thieves' Guild is pain the first time or maybe even the second, and having to do it in a specific order sucks, but I still enjoy it a lot. It's Song of the Caverns that I struggle with. I find it a pain and jumping from carpet to carpet just feels ridiculous.

I agree, I actually am in the minority on really enjoying the Thieves Guild mission. I never had issues with it on my first run with it and I enjoyed the entire journey the mission presented. Mage Towers is also super fun and like you said very atmospheric. I understand that most of the fans of Thief dislike these missions but I wholeheartedly enjoy them.

Not removing - shorten. The idea of a thieves guild with different "houses" all connected and an entrance through a pub and casino is quite interesting. Not interesting are the boring sewer systems as connection and you even have to backtrack through.

At least Return to the Cathedral I nowadays really appreciate apart from some balancing probs (aggro enemies in cathedral itself not avoidable, too many zombies in building with the rosary to sneak through without try and error). The atmosphere is awesome and the gameplay is like a mini-version of a Survival Horror game. It's not a great "stealth-action game level" though. But Thief 1 other than Thief 2 was never designed as a "true stealth-action game" - the genre even wasn't defined back then as we know it today.

^to be fair since return doesn’t have a loot requirement it’s not that bad. Short of the haunt killing objective, I’ve never been a fan of maps that I can’t navigate in my head let alone a map. Fan maps that do that really frustrate me. As for thieves guilt, the best fix would be to remove the sewer and just make it a moderate city navigation map.

Thief Gold took the best videogame ever created, the original Thief The Dark Project, and RUINED IT. Thus, Thief Gold is the worst videogame ever, despite there being videogames that are worse in more, other ways.

That's some crap logic.

Played Return to the Cathedral again some days ago.
Meanwhile I would go that far to say that the mission is even genius - because in the end it's a compact survival-horror game. It contains everything you would expect from a classic Survival Horror game like the old Resident Evils and Alone in the Dark in some kind of "1-hour-game in a game". Sure - it's still no great stealth-game mission ... but Doom, Tomb Raider, Monkey Island and AoE are also no great stealth-games. No reason not to like em. xD

With the exception of all the objectives including a kill objective, on expert adds more enemies that makes repeat playthroughs tedious.

While I was disappointed with 'Thieves Guild' there are things I really liked about 'Mage Towers'. - One funky level or two doesn't "ruin" the entire game.

"The worst ever" ?? - Have you played any other games ???

I think problem is they put zombies in too early. Honestly this is something Thief Gold could have fixed. Just have two more levels with guards that could build up to the supernatural and then the zombies and supernatural can shape up the game.

I think this is off putting because of how off the pacing is.
