Best Control Layout?
So I've never played any of the Thief games ever. Not even the newest one. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good keyboard layout? I just cannot get used to both W and S being forward movement. I'm trying different things with some success but didn't know if any of you had any good ones.

I made WASD walk with run being bound to shift. Because I'll be walking a lot more, and I only really run if I know no one will hear me or to run away. So that's what made sense to me, and it's been working out so far.

Yea that's what I've been doing. It's a little tough for me though because I keep wanting to hold down both W and Shift when running but it just causes you to stop. So I have to remember to just hold down Shift by itself.

Thanks for the input.
Sounds like a problem with your keyboard.

TFix includes a bunch of different keybind sets you know.
WASD for moving, Shift for walking, CTRL for creeping, C for crouch, right mouse button for blocking, F for using an item or opening doors, Q and E for leaning and alt for leaning forward.

The only real reason i'm using the right click for blocking is beacuse my M3 button doesn't work.
Bind shift to 'speed toggle'. That'll allow you to hold shift and w to run (or walk, if you bound w to run). Also, you might want to bind quicksave and quickload to f5 and f9 and compass to v (you'll need the compass a lot!)

I just found a way to use Run and Creep as modifier keys like in Thief 2, it makes the game a whole lot easier.

Open Thief 2, rebind your keys as you fit. Basically W for walking forward, Shift for running and Ctrl for creeping. You don't have to save your keybindings, just click done.

Exit the game and go to your Thief 2 directory and copy user.bnd file to your thief gold directory. Make a backup before you do so.

And that's it. Thief Gold will now support modifier keys, but you won't be able to change your walk keys anymore if you want modifiers to work. All other keys are rebindable.
