recommended key bindings
Can anyone recommend a particular keyboard binding that is most comfortable to use? The default bindings are a little annoying to me so if anyone has a recommendation I would really appreciate it thanks

This patch: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733
Includes a set of pre-made key bindings you can load from within the controls menu.

If none of those are to your liking I can tell you my own binds (which I've pretty much got perfect by now).

I have tried some of the bindings in the patch but not all of them, but out of curiosity I want to know your bindings if you don't mind and thanks for the help I appreciate it

Hello there .o/

Just in case you'd want to know mines too (well, the most used ones that I may have somehow modified from original) :
Numpad 7 => lean left
Numpad 8 => lean forward
Numpad 9 => lean right
Numpad 4 and ← => turn left
Numpad 5 => walk forward (slowly)
Numpad 6 and → => turn right
Numpad 1 => strafe left
Numpad 2 and ↓ => walk backwards
Numpad 3 => strafe right
Numpad 0 => block
Numpad "." => center view

o.O

Wait

Let me guess

Left-handed?
Mine:
w -run forward, although you may prefer walk forward.
asd - slide left back slide right
q - lean left
e - lean right
c and x - toggle crouch
space - jump
shift - speed toggle
f6 and f7 - lockpicks
f5 - quicksave
f9 - quickload
f4 - flashbomb
v - compass
alt - lean forward.

All others at default, I think.

oh thank you so much :)
I use the user.bnd file from Thief 2, since Thief Gold doesn't have a default Walk Forward button, only run. The other speeds are gained by using modifiers and a dedicated creep key, which i also dislike. So you can copy paste that to your Thief Gold directory to gain the same movement as in Thief 2.

Run Forward = Empty
Walk Forawrd = W
Backward = S
Slide Left = A
Slide Right = D
Lean Left = Q
Lean Right = E
Toggle Crouch = C
Jump = Space
Attack = Mouse 1
Use Item = F
Block = Mouse 2
Speed Toggle = CTRL
Drop Item = X
Next Item = Right
Prev Item = Left
Clear Item = T
Next Weapon = Up
Prev Weapon = Down
Clear Weapon = R
Compass = Tilde
Lean Forawrd = ALT

Lockpicks are F1 and F2, Weapons are number keys, Health is Enter, Flash is Tab, Breath Potion is Backspace and the other items are the numpad keys. QuickSave/QuickLoad F6,F9
M is for Map, O is for Objectives + and - are for gamma settings. Standard stuff.

I also don't have a mouse wheel, since it is broken. So i use the arrow keys for items and weapons switching.

Kind of, I guess. When I was a young kid I started writing with either the left or right hand until my grandmother insisted that I wrote using only the right one ~~ ... not sure if that's really relevant though.
When playing I generally use the mouse with right hand and the keyboard with left.

Ah, fair enough. I'm sort of ambidextrous too. But you use keys on the right of the keyboard?

Yes, mostly.
Still use the alphanumeric part for weapon select, the "drop item" key and such.
