Thief Trilogy Remaster
You know it's coming at some point as remasters of old games are very fashionable -and profitable no doubt :Dosh:- these days. So, based on this assumption, what would you like to see in remastered versions of Thief 1, 2 and Deadly Shadows?

Only Looking Glass could do it justice. - No Hub Worlds please.

Looking Glass is long dead and burried, right? Also, looking at what happened with 'Underworld Ascendant', I am not sure whether involving the original people is a good idea.

I know the history but I'm not familiar with U A - I just meant that I don't trust any outfit
to do it right these days.

I understand, but I would really love to see a resurgence of this franchise. And a remaster of these masterpieces seems like a good way to kick-start the process.

It is also hard to accept that this great IP ended on such a bad note.

I loved the first two - there were some great scenes in three. Except for the hub-world
and lack of rope arrows I would have rated it with the others.

Like Far Cry 2 - Thief 1 and 2 are completely unique in their genres, and none since
have equaled these originals. - They deserve a face lift to meet modern machine
capabilities,

A waste of money and time, like every remaster/ remake, specially for a game that runs perfectly fine with fan patches. Square Enix ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up Thief once already, so i don't trust them to not do it again.
Use them as inspiration for a new game instead, kinda like New Blood is doing with Gloomwood.

I disagree with waste of time and money, provided the Remaster is done well of course. I am aware that the game runs perfectly with fan patches, on PC though. What I would like to see is controller support brought in and console ports so that modern audiences can experience those fantastic games.

the only glimmer of hope you have here is NDS acquiring the rights to the Thief ip and porting it to KEX.

It does seem like the obvious choice and Nightdive Studios are certainly capable in terms of remasters. But, given the development hell that seems to be affecting System Shock reboot, and the lack of progress -not to mention poor communication- surrounding other concurrent projects, not sure that I trust them to be right fit at this current juncture.

Can’t see anyone doing it, stealth games and immersive sims don’t really sell. Plus with most focused on visuals they’d only be interested in deadly shadows.

hmmm.. Stealth and immersion are my first two requirements after FP perspective,
then comes no hud clutter and no menu / skill / exp / crafting interruptions from the environment, and little to no cut-scenes.

There are very few games I can play ! 8^p' '

I think that you are right in that stealth only games is seen as a niche genre and publishers may see it as a risky investment. But, there are exceptions like Thief Simulator which did quite well. Also, there is no need to go for AAA budget/approach which is one of the mistakes Squenix did with Thief 4 in my view.

Thief sim had no expectations, plus wasn’t that initially early access? As for cost, it’s a remaster nothing to reinvent wheel with, but the engine used for deadly shadows isn’t the best. As for making new games well compare the cost back then and inflate them to today.

that and also that they pulled the linux build earlier in the year for the SS remaster as well, this means for me that i don't have any reason to trust nightdive ever again. All of those points put together and i have no interest in their remastered version of system shock or even the enhanced ss2 version.

I'm hoping the thief games are not picked up by night dive or any company like it as i'm sure there are a lot better out there that could a better job.

Nightdive are doing a VR port of System Shock 2 alongside their new enhanced edition, and man does it make me want a VR port of Thief 1 and 2 so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ badly. That is what I want to see.
