Thief Gold - How to kill zombie. With a sword

Interesting thing happened: so I started the Haunted Cathedral (Thief Gold, expert difficulty), and as you probably know there is this one zombie patrolling the area on the beginning of the level.
So just for fun I creeped to stab him from behind and when I hit him - his head fell off! I was so shocked I continued stabbing and to my surprise I managed to cut off his arm. I did a quicksave and continued dancing around with my sword - and guess what - his second arm fell off and after that, zombie died! Again and for good this time. I mean it stopped moaning, slurping and making any sound at all. Proper dead meat.

So I've loaded quick save and again, managed to kill him (without cutting off the second arm though)
I saved the file and just to be sure, loaded quicksave again. And again I managed to kill this damn thing - I mean properly killed, not just put in dormant.

The word is that you can't kill a zombie with a sword. But then some said it's possible. So it's officially confirmed. It's time consuming but achievable.

And no - it wasn't Dead Space. Thief Gold (GOG version) with Tfix 1.25d and HDmod 1.2.

Quick update: It's not a bug. All zombies can be killed. On that level.

you are using hdmod, which adds that functionality. in vanilla/TFix, you can't dismember zombies, so they are unkillable by normal means.

I thought hdmod was just for upgrading graphics.

Damn. I wish I didn't know that.
I always liked zombie levels of T1/TG - knowing I can kill them anytime now somehow takes away the fun.
Shame.

yes, that's a common misconception - hdmod is not just the textures, there are also gameplay changes and additions. some people like them, other do not.
