Some of the missions that Gold added to the original Thief 1 just plain suck..
There is a "downgrade' patch that will revert Gold back to the original game.
I highly recommend it.
The Guild mission was one of those added missions and it was the worst designed
and most frustrating mission that I ever played; - and - I had already played through
Thief 1 and 2 before trying Gold.
As soon as I can find the "downgrade' patch I'll post the link here. NO first time players
should be subjected to these poorly designed discouragements.
- Thanks very much - for the feed - !
It just restores Thief Gold back to the original Thief 1 - Free of the bogus missions
like 'The Guild' that he was complaining about.
I guess he could always just use the level skip cheat for missions that are a pain..
I'll look that up again and edit it into this post.
EDIT : Skip to Next Mission:
---------------------
Press [CTRL] + [ALT] + [SHIFT] + [END] to skip to the
next mission.
Found the info I was looking for in an ancient thread - (just resurrected)
Thanks To :
Have to be able to play fan missions! - I would have missed the Mage Towers too..
I'l have to retract my advice with an updated announcement. - Thanks SO much for
helping me to catch this in time ! All that I need now is a 'Dark Loader' that'll run
on win 7 or above. - I finally signed on ttlg today, they must have something there..
- Thanks Again -> !
Nothing prevents you from having 2 or more folders with different installs of the game, one for TDP only, and a Gold one for fan missions :)
GoldToDark's setup instructions, in its "read me" file, do recommend to install it on a copy anyway.
If you update your game with NewDark (which is included in TFix), you don't need DarkLoader, you can just modify your game shortcut so that it starts with FMSel. Just add " -fm" (without quotes) at the end of the "target" field.
As a matter of routine I prefer to air on the side of caution by DLing all accompanying text
files and reading thoroughly before running. Thanks very much for clarifying though 8 )
I take it you're the author of this work of brilliance.. A great idea much needed for those
like myself who prefer the original DS, and for first timers who might be discouraged or
be misled by a negative impression.
Thanks so much for all the work you put into this and to make it so accessible -> !
Great! - I love using command line peramiters, takes me right back to the days of DOS
and composing batch files. - So direct !
Appreciate all the help.
- Best Wishes -
Cool - that might even be more convenient - have two ini's; one original and one for
launching FMs, and just swap them out as needed..
Well I like keeping them seperate anyway for my own sanity. - I enjoy writing reviews of my favorite Fan Missions and I need to know what game I'm talking about, but I'm interested in
what these other 'cool features' might be..
Thanks for your many kindnesses Jiji 8 )
Defending the Guild is the stupidest from people who know nothing of level design and are
the worst players ever. The Maw is the greatest level ever created.
I don't mean any of this, I'm just being contrary to illustrate how stupid these arguments are.
- Thanks for the feed -
