Tips For A Beginner?

My biggest question I have is what to do if a hunt begins in basement? Often the ghost seems to start at the stairs, and then I can't get away from it. The distance to get up the stairs and out feels to far when I run out of stamina after such a short time. What am I supposed to do here?

If it spawns on the stairs, you can hide by the summoning/satanic circle where you burn items if you don't have the Talisman to effectively protect on the staircase. Even then, there is a *chance* the ghost will wonder over there anyways and you will be killed either way, there is no major outplay besides either:

A) Being Luther and using the crucifix
B) Talisman
C) Hiding near the circle while hugging the wall to your left side and hoping it doesn't happen to chose to explore the basement when Haunting (If it's -The Shadow-, you will likely die either way as there are moments where not even the Talisman will protect you but it's likely a bug and dependent on where you put the Talisman).
