The issue it seems now is that she's only relevant if there is threats around like the ghost hunting or a minighost, or if you wanted to micromanage sanity by looking at the book, so on. But there is plenty of moments in the game where neither is relevant i.e lower difficulties and sticking to the light, that's why she feels weak.
But since I'm planning to stick to her info gathering role, I have some plans to add more onto her ability. For example she can see the collectables next as blue, or the revival dolls that spawn when someone dies. If push comes to shove, perhaps even the cursed items show as purple but that's very overkill and would require a significant cooldown nerf, it also rubs on Zay's role. I'll try the formers first. Especially collectables and such, it solves another issue where they're very hard to find I heard.
Thanks for sharing your feelings on her though. You just justified my buff to her. I really want to make her work because she's my favorite, visually and thematically.
By the way, the revive dolls. Do they spawn each time someone dies? or only 1 ally per game? or just a chance they spawn at all? I didnt see any info on that and if i try to google it, i find info on Project Zombie. X.x crazy right?
Yeah. Thing is we used to have it infinite, and capable of bringing it up anytime, but players started feeling too safe during early prototyping so we went a little aggressively in the other direction. We can buff duration/nerf cooldown though, no qualms with that.
Currently, they spawn every time at a random place in the house. The idea of inhouse tools is still very new, so we haven't made a communication channel for them yet. We rely on vending machine for normal tools, and arcade for enemies, but nothing yet for inhouse. Maybe we might add them to the journal
Maybe, like if she has the ability on, she can see markings around her in rooms with an item or something. We'll try the revival dolls/collectables first though and see where that puts her before trying to rub off on Zay's role.
The minighosts spawn and despawn often. The hand could've not been there yet. All minighosts can be seen, it's just the hand hides in paintings and attacks people who run by it. You can read up on the minighosts in the arcade for more detail. Though we're planning a little rework for the hand to give a little warning like springing out before grabbing a player. We thought players would notice them in the paintings but no one does they're way too invisible. Even we don't haha.
Either way, we'll try to write information on these types of items somewhere. There is also Gasoline you can use on the generator to increase the duration, it also spawns inside the house. However, there is no information on it also.
All in all, you've got a great new ghost game here with some really unique concepts we haven't seen in this genre before. I'm honestly looking forward to seeing it evolve and improve (and I agree that Nyx is one of my favourite characters thematically, but no doubt one of the harder ones to balance).
Picked this game up after seeing Insym's video, and so far my friends and I have had a blast on it. We found out about the revive dolls purely by accident. I was 'viewing' the game through my brothers eyes after being the unfortunate recipient of a ghostly bear hug. He spotted the doll, thinking it was one of the four collectables but after picking it up, I found myself upstairs in pitch darkness.
It was during a hunt, so at first I wasn't sure if my brother had been killed or not. Then I realised I could move, got my bearings and made it back out. Thanks to that, it became our first successful exorcism!
