Adaptive AI vs fixed AI in championship
Does anyone know if adaptive AI during a championship carries from race to race or it is per track? I never know what to set the fixed AI at since I am better in some cars and not so good in others like formula 1, 2 cars (not bad in f3 and f4 or indycar). I don't want to set up a whole championship and then realize it is too hard or too easy, so was thinking of adaptive but a lot of times that ends up being too easy as well, so was just curious if it keeps building during each round.

Sadly, no. In each race it starts at 80, then adapts it's speed based on your laptimes.

This is one thing I wish they would improve. I have the same issue as you. NR2003 does adaptive AI better than any other game. They have both the track AI level then in the race you can have it "adapt" + or - a % and you get to change that %.. Also you don't need to run a championship to get the AI to adjust, just any race.. so what I would do in order to setup a championship is run a really quick 5 lap race at each of the tracks, then it would set the AI baseline for each track, then start a championship and they would all be "pre set" for you.

I, personally would rather they work on the A.I. Its totally inadequate as a learning tool to help competing in real events. Its the worst i have ever driven against. Iracing has probable the best AI so far. Forget working on Graphics , Cars, Track.. whats it worsth if the racing is so poor.

I have to say, I had better memories of the AI from the last time I played about 10 years ago. My tests this week have been very shoking. AI punting you directly when leaving the pit, failing to brake, sending it in the inside to just spin into you... Wow... It might be the worst or "best" AI I have ever seen. "Best" in replicating open public lobbys behavior...

If the AI are messed up, you can always delete

"Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\Player1\aiadaptation.xml"

And start over

I usually have pretty good luck with the AI, I race them like I am racing online, I have name tags on so that it feels more like an online race. My problem is that I may set the AI to 95% and end up being able to go from last to 3rd or something in a 20 minute race, which is ridiculous, but then I drive another car and at 95% the whole field is 8 seconds in front of me. I guess I could start to keep a list of the best percentages, usually I just want to dive in and race, not start a session, realize I am too high or low, quit, start over, need another change, etc. But adaptive always feels like it is a bit too easy. Not the worst problem in the world, though! Also last night I realized you cannot just create an 18 race season and save it, which was frustrating! I think you have to get through a whole session before it will save. Maybe even a whole weekend.

This is nonsense, the adaptive AI does not reset to 80 at the start of every race. The game references your performance over ALL the races you have done, both single races and championships, both using adaptive AI and normal AI. It uses that combined data to set the AI level based on your average lap times over a set sample period.

There's a whole topic on how the adaptive AI works on the official forums, as well as a guide on how to "prime" it for the best results.

No AI is a good "learning tool" for online events. Learning to race against a bunch of AI that drive in a nice clean procession around a track is literally worthless. Humans are unpredictable by nature, and armchair racers can and will do stupid things and take you out on a regular basis. To learn online racing you need to race online. It's that simple.

As for R3Es AI, we must be playing different games. I routinely have close, hard battles with this sim's AI as well as watching them fighting with each other. No issues with being rammed. They even make "mistakes" under pressure, something I don't see in any other sim. Most of the time the "problems" people have with the AI is down to their own unpredictable behaviour or incapable driving rather than an issue with the AI. (And that goes for most sims.)

If an AI sending it down the inside, jumping over the kerb, spinning and proceeding to take out an other AI is due to the player, we indeed do not play the same game. Also the AI will send it down the inside no matter what, even if you are ahead in the braking zone, bumping into your door in the best case scenario. Also I have seen multiple time AI unable to follow a proper racing line f another car get out the pit taking it out in the process (while that other car was inside the white line). But hey, I can send back your comment to yourself and just taking it as a lack of experience other than 5 minutes sprint races.

Hi,

I personnaly use the fixed AI because of the adaptative sometimes erratics adjustements..

moreover, this send back to me a consistant and.. numbered (!) "virtual level" who help me to better estimate my skills than the adaptative

but also,

nobody is speaking about the differences between a well known track with an easy car versus an unknown track with a car intented to kill you each minute.. :steamhappy:

alterning those events give to the fixed IA all its sense by shifting yourself up or down the AI level for 2,3 or 5 points following your skills on this particular combo (adjustements are immediates and consistants..)

and where the adaptative AI cannot handle the difference of your skills between differents tracks and cars combos..
