You can test it for free.

I realise the game is free, but was this made to play with a keyboard or not, because I dont want to download the game only to find it it has been optimised for a gamepad like other certain games, thats why Im asking, should save me the time

With the driving aids, I'm sure you coulkd have some fun with some of the cars. If you decide to download it, you can try every car in a test drive.

I used to play with the keyboard before completing my rig and I think it's really driveable in amateur mode with the keyboard. I often recorded laps in the 1st quarter of the leaderboards, even with Gr5 or GTO cars.

RRE with a Keaboard is not the best way to Play it , btw. u can also use a Controller to play it .

I´ve meet some Guys that drive better with Controller as i with Wheel.

Sry for my Bad English

It wasn't specifically made to play with keyboard but that option was definitely taken into account, there are settings to change keys input sensitivity, and they are very helpful.

Keep in mind, cars are very different and for some of them even Amateur mode assists are not always enough to keep your car from spinning, but there are, as well, cars that are surprisingly well driveable even in Get Real (and you can set up your car in this mode for easier handling and use built-in traction control if it's available for this car).

Unfortunately, it's impossible to predict how each car handles with keyboard, you have to try them to know for sure (test drive is free for all cars). And older cars are usually better. Yup, who could've thought.

That is really depressing to read, why would you create a game that is not perfectly fine with using a keyboard, it sounds like you are really limiting the public that wants to approach this game, not everyone of us has couple of hundred dollars to buy a proper gamepad with pedals and all, I dont want to sound like Im bashing on the game, but why couldnt you just create a game like dozen others that are fully supporting playing with a keyboard, such as any NFS game, Asseto Corsa, Project Cars, The Crew, any of the F1 series, GRID, etc, etc, not saying that you should throw away the perfect handling you can get when playing with a proper gamepad, but still, is it that hard to optimise playing with a keyboard, Im not a programmer so I dont know, but if any of the other genres could do it, I doubt you cant

The closer you are to realism, the more precise control you need to drive fast, and keyboard is not the best solution for precise controls. NFS, The Crew, GRID - they are all arcade racing games, with simplified physics and controls (with GRID Autosport being more half-arcade/half-sim) and assists specially honed for some actions, like drifting, counter-steering, etc.

Obviously, you don't get that in simulators like RaceRoom, Assetto Corsa, Project Cars because it'll hamper realism. But I wouldn't say RaceRoom is much harder with keyboard than AC or PC. But very limited assists options (there are only three of them: "Novice" with brake and throttle assists, "Amateur" with ABS and traction control and no car setup, "Get Real" without anything but Traction Control in some cars) do make it harder sometimes.

I understand multiplayer balancing intentions, but I don't know why they didn't provide a wider range of assist options at least in single player (at least, I don't know, an ability to set up your car with assists on?). gMotor 2 (game engine RaceRoom uses) supports plenty of them, you can see it in rFactor 2, for example (another modern gMotor 2 game).

P.S. You won't find support in what you say. Sim-racing community these days is... well, human memory is short and everyone seem to forget older days with sims like GTL, GTR2, rFactor when wheel/gamepad wasn't seen as a requirement to play. You'll be laughed at when you talk about keyboard in simulators (and sometimes even when you talk about arcades). And it's kinda ironic that modern sims remain playable with keyboard despite what community think.

I don't have a gamepad nor wheel so I've always played this game with the keyboard. You can play it well, but most of the time in Amateur with driving aids or with traction control almost 100%, you really need to "understand" the car and track so you can set average/good laps. This being said, I don't think someone could be really competitive on hard mode or multiplayer, but for offline/single player mode it is ok

That just depends on who you compete with. If you look at any leaderboard you'll see there are lots of players of very different skill, so even with keyboard you, potentially, have lots of equally skilled opponents to race with.
