RaceRoom Racing Experience on Windows 10
So I found a previous thread complaining about lack of support for this awesome looking game in Windows 10, so I thought I'd put in my 10 cents worth to help, just in case anyone else has the same issues with this game.

First up the system I'm trying to run the game on is on Windows 10 Home 64 Bit : Version 10.0.14393, Running on a HP Pavilion dv6-6135TX NB PC.
Intel i7-2630QM @ 2Ghz
4Gb DDR3-1333 Mhz SO-DIMM
Graphics: Dual Mode - Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Driver: 9.17.10.4229) & AMD Radeon HD 6770 (Driver: 15.201.1151.1010 - Catalyst 15.11.1 Beta (Last Catalyst Driver before Crimson Drivers).
Audio: HP Modified for Windows 10 - IDT HD Audio Driver ver: 6.10.6492.0.

I ran the game and it loads to a black screen, if I press ESC a couple of times it loads the background movie in a white silouhette style with no foreground menu. If I hit the ESC key a bunch of times and hover mouse near the middle / bottom third of the screen the mouse cursor changes from an arrow to a little hand. If I press the left mouse button a couple of times it exits the game back to desktop, and freezes the system for about 30 seconds before it becomes responsive again.

To try and rectify this I tried the following:
- Windows 10 on this laptop is a fresh build
- Ran cmd window as administrator, and ran: CHKDSK C: /F /V /R & verified no bad sectors of file system.
- Re-install C++ 2010 X86 Runtime
- Verified DirectX9C full offline istaller was loaded
- Verified Windows 10 is fully up to date as of: 24/12/2016
- Navigated to Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Turn Windows Features On or Off > and made sure .NET Framework 3.5 / 4.6 and Direct Play are loaded.
- Installed latest versions of Flash Player are loaded: 24.0.0.186
- Also tried removing all Flash versions and loading the Steam game Flash prerequisite version 11 in case it was a downgrade issue from here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\raceroom racing experience\Game\REDIST\install_flash_player_11_plugin.msi.
- Set Internet Explorer 10 as default web browser in Control Panel > Default Programs to ensure that connectivity to the game server works correctly.

At this point I decided to to try something additional...
Ran SysInternals Procmon.exe to monitor what the system was doing whilst on that menu system in the game and found the following:

Checked: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{ec87f1e3-c13b-4100-b5f7-8b84d54260cb}
- This apparently refers to a long standing Steam bug to do with Direct Input as noted in this thread, and as far as I can see still un-resolved, but would just load up the CPU a bit more:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3106707

HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM\AccentColorInactive - NOT FOUND
Refers to the Windows 10 Inactive screen title bar not showing in colour, I double checked Windows 10 settings and it says it was already turned on...
See this thread for more info: {LINK ENTFERNT}

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\DeviceClasses\{4d1e55b2-f16f-11cf-88cb-001111000030}\Properties - NOT FOUND
I think this a peculiarity with this laptop, as it's an older HP laptop built for Windows 7, and as such there are no HP 3D Drive Guard drivers written that are compatible with Windows 10 for this system.

HKCU\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\PrivateProperties\DirectInput\VID_0458&PID_003A\DeviceInstances\7&2962B5B0&0&0000 - NAME NOT FOUND
As far as I can work out this is because Direct Input in the DirectX sub system was deprecated back in Windows 8 in favour of XInput, which for all accounts looks inferior, however has been included instead to make it easier for programmers to use the same code in console games to work with newer XBox One controllers.

If you have game controller issues and want to use an older XBox 360 Controller in this or other games in Windows 10 try this controller wrapper instead: {LINK ENTFERNT}
TocaEdit Xbox 360 Controller Emulator.

C:\Windows\Prefetch\RRRE.EXE-CC258773.pf - File locked with only readers
Navigated to the folder, and changed file permissions to allow "Users" group with Modify Access, it also made no difference.

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\d3d.dll - NAME NOT FOUND
The file is there, however it's a different size to the one found in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.
I also noted that other Steam users have had issues with Direct3D in reference to crossover 32 / 64 Bit Games such as Batman - Arkham Knight etc, and they found replacing the D3D11.DLL fixed the issue for them.

File comparison of different d3d11.dll files shows the following:
C:\Windows\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.479_none_33c88b71a00bfd92\d3d11.dll

File Size: 196Kb

C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.0_none_1d2cba51e45ebbc9\d3d11.dll
Date Modified: 21/12/2016
File Size: 204Kb

C:\Windows\System32\d3d11.dll
Date Modified: 11/11/2016
File Size: 2.69Mb

C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-directx-direct3d11_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.14393.479_none_2973e11f6bab3b97\d3d11.dll
Date Modified: 11/11/2016
File Size: 2.69Mb

C:\Windows\SysWOW64\d3d11.dll
Date Modified: 11/11/2016
File Size: 2.17Mb

I figured that bigger is better, so used Unlocker 1.91 to delete D3D11.DLL from the: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ folder, after backing it up, and replaced it with the one from C:\Windows\System32\ because bigger is better right!
Still made no difference... However I have noticed that the file the game was expecting was: D3D.DLL, not D3D11.DLL, and I have no idea which version of D3D this game natively runs under.

So that may still be the problem...

Re-registered all the DLL files from C:\Windows\System32.
Tried this from Bleeping Computer: {LINK ENTFERNT}
You could also run {LINK ENTFERNT} Windows Repair All In One: {LINK ENTFERNT}
Great tool for fixing a myriad of windows issues!

By now I was getting desperate. Tried using a little app called Large Address Aware, in case it was a X86 vs X64 issues to make the game able to access memory correctly:
{LINK ENTFERNT}

C:\Windows\INF\msmouse.PNF - ACCESS DENIED
Instead of changing permissions on the file, I noticed that the file already had "Administrators" in it with Modify access, so I changed the game executable properties to run as an Administrator, this also made no difference.

- In the Steam Apps folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\raceroom racing experience\Game\protect.exe
Checked protect.exe info and noticed Driver Signing properties of file version: 5.91.1611.72, by Symantec: Symantec 4/12/2015 to 27/1/2017. So the digital signature is still in date, unlike what has been suggested here: {LINK ENTFERNT}

At this point I'm out of answers...
As far as I can see the 2 highest possibilites are:
- C:\Windows\SysWOW64\d3d.dll isn't registered as opposed to: D3D11.DLL
- Direct Input - affecting mouse input or a certain controller expected
- There were also some vague references to Proxy or IP NOT FOUND, but I think I fixed that by changing IE11 to default web browser instead of Edge, also tried with Firefox and Chrome as defaults and made no difference.
- Due to the missing menus in the title screen, could still be a Flash Player issue, however I tried the latest version, and the older version, and neither version helped, so not sure.

If anyone else has some ideas on how to get this game going in Windows 10 I would be very grateful!!!

Had windows 7 then upgraded to 10

Hi Tony, thanks for the reply, I didn't have the option on this laptop of doing the upgrade, missed the free upgrade windows to 10. Had to do a fresh install, and update heaps of drivers manually to make it windows 10 compatible.
With your issue on A/C I'd try looking at your power saving settings and reduce your CPU level to say 80 or 90% just in case it's an overheating issue.
If that doesn't work, then put the CPU settings back, then do the same thing with the GPU, just underclock it by 10%, Nvidia and ATI both have over / under clocking functionality built into thier drivers these days, just has to be enabled with a tick box.

That will tell you if heat is your culprit straight away. If it is, find a friend with an air compressor, and blow the dust out of the laptop or PC as required, it should sort the issues out.
Try this

Right-Click the Game in your Steam Library
In the menu that appears, click "Properties"
In the window that appears you should see two buttons, one of them is "Launch Option". Click this button
A small window with a text field should now appear, enter the following into the text field:
-cefNoGPU
Close the windows
Try starting the game and see if it has helped
Thanks for the tip, I keep getting same message.
I will let you know later if it worked, as I would normally get around 6 crashes by the end of the night lol
Thanks
Ok after doing this I no longer see cefNO crash :)
But the 0x00000017 crash is still there, maintaining the unacceptable load to crash ratio, 6 times last night over 2_3 hours. It doesn't seem to like additional cars, it's much more likely to crash when using your paid for cars, it's just crashed now as I text sat in the garage, because I'm in my corvette.
Really bad for business, free shcorlette series is all I can race, and it still crashes when a certain player joins or if I enter a race with 20+ drivers.

Thanks

Ok so went straight for what I was most confident wouldn't work, a single player race with my gt3 mustang and Ai, same crash :(
But I will let you know if it helps the player joining issue later
Thanks
Do you have DX9? I am not sure, maybe you have to install it on a new Windows 10 platform...
I'm not sure so probably not, I have windows 7 and I'm 32 bit if that makes a difference.
I'm getting the 0xc0000005
And the 0xc0000017 crash codes.
I will post in main forum later.
cefNO crashes are fixed thanks to baddog
Thanks

Still need crash logs Vin

Thanks BADDOG I am enjoying A/C again fixed my problem
Thank you
and a happy new year
Ac ? But good :)
Just for the record my issue is identified, after posting on main forum it turns out it's memory as my rig is just beneath system requirements, I can enjoy the game with fast performance with most cars, it's just the gt3 cars and maybe others that have many car types and skins all in one, that was the problem trying to load all those different textures at once, I can lower video settings and have less Ai and still race them, it's great now that I know the issue and can work around it.
thanks for the help baddog, here and on main forum :)
