Indeed not, cause at Race Room, I would buy DTM 2015 and I would refund Project Cars 2, if I choose Race Room. I dont want to spend 75€.
Still I own every single racing sim on the pc, so if one doesnt have a feature I require, one of them will.
Only you can make that choice, plus you have to think about online multiplayer, as much as I like R3E, it suffers with less people playing it online than all the other simracing titles on the pc, plus as you already should know, it requires a always online connected to the internet to play single player races.
On to some actual feedback, Raceroom has the content regarding DTM of course but it will be up to you to setup a championship, it has NO career at all. Comming from F1 2017 that may be very stale and lacking immersion. Note that in my experience the Ai in Raceroom have been fine, I have only played it as a single player. Pcars has a career and evrything else you desire, setups/weather etc. Maybe you could simmulate a GT3 career in Pcars 2 with various weather/conditions etc as there is no DTM content. Goodluck with your decision.
Also just to add: I am very reluctant to spend money on raceroom as they are working on a new title and this game is online only, meaning if they close the servers, you loose all your content.
Project Cars had a magic patch coming that was going to fix everything too!
Why didn't they fix the AI from PC1 to PC2 during development? Wait for the magic patch at your peril. AI isn't the sort of issue that has a quick fix either. Too many unknowns and a history of abandoning broken releases by SMS leaves that assumption in doubt.
R3E after a recent build has great AI again, I dont have to restart races at all now. I think it was the overly harsh collision mechanics as since that has been fixed no problems.
Actually now I rate it as the best AI and I pretty much only race offline these days. I was about to say I own every sim too but my refund for PC2 is pending so maybe I don't anymore lol.
I remember either in a livestream or on a forum a dev said this will never happen. If they turn off the servers they will change the game to work offline first. But dont quote me I could be wrong.
Also its SimBinUK making GTR3, work on R3E continues by Sector 3 Studios.
First of all, you need to choose between buying a simulator, or buying a simcade game. RaceRoom is simulator, Project Cars 2 is simcade.
Points:
1) - PC2 has a career, RR has championship.
2) - RR has, but I'm not sure about PC2.
3) - Both.
4) - Safety Car is only working "perfectly" (as I know) in iRacing. But, rules are in both games.
5) - RR hasn't got weather changing, PC2 do.
But seriously, you need to decide which way you wanna' go on, sim/simcade. ;) Good luck in choosing!
Bye, Vajk
And for your information been as you dont own project cars 2 let alone first one, project cars 2 physics and force feedback is way better than those in race room.
Raceroom, after they patched the initial bad physics and FFB, have been my main sim during a long time. It has interesting racing classes and really good physics and the FFB brings a lot of information. It's easy to set a race or a championship. It has great tracks (and well done) and the menus are simple (better than those of Race07, almost as good than GTR2's). It is a solid software, every feature works, which is unfortunately not the case for the current generation simulators (Automobilista being the exception, as it works perfectly).
Raceroom has one of the greatest AI and you can get intense races offline. What I experienced on PCars2 for the moment is not great, it depends on the conditions (class, weather...) but it's ok, you can have fun (you may have to restart a race several times).
I've raced a lot on Raceroom, a lot online, although I used to race more offline before on titles like GTR2 and Race07. It is so easy and quick to get into a race, you naturally go online just do a quick race. Also, the usual online stupid behaviours are pretty well managed, the "stupid" cars becoming ghosts unable to ruin the other ones, and it is, when you have tried to race on other racing games' public servers, a major positive point.
The main flaws of Raceroom, for me are : non dynamic time and no weather. And I personnally like those features, I used them in older sims like GTR2, Race07 (that is why rfactor has never been a perfect sim to my taste) and... F1 Challenge.
PCars 2 is a amazing suprise, the physics are good. I may prefer a bit Raceroom's FFB but it may be a question of taste. The cars selection is great : the prototypes and GTs from the 90s and the 2Ks was what I have been expecting for a long time. Only Raceroom had GT1 (but more modern). The historic F1s (which are not exclusive to Pcars but not available in Raceroom) and indycars are a great addition.
It is quite easy to race online, although the ranking system is broken and many racers just ruine your car at the start of a race or, during the pace lap. I've experienced an incredible pace lap on an indycar race on an oval track, I really don't have any idea of what people were trying to do, I think almost half of the more than 20 cars were ruined before the launch of the race.
Pcars 2 has a lot of bugs, it doesn't not feel as solid as Raceroom. But it has a lot of features, the ones that Raceroom lacks : an impressive weather system (better than in the 1st Pcars), the dynamic time and an immersive presentation (because rFactor2 has these features but really lacks the presentation).
I do not agree with McLane about the sound, PCars 2 sounds great but Raceroom's sounds are still the best of the best. Pcars 2 graphics are for sure better, and only you know what is most important for your immersion, sounds or graphics.
Both sims are great and both have problems.
I think that in order to choose your sim you should decide on the cars and tracks selection and on the value of the dynamic weather system. Focusing on the offline or the online races is something important too.
Raceroom has the DTM (with the right rules and championship mode) and the 92 DTM, Project Cars2 has the Group C cars. Group A grid in Raceroom is more complete. Pcars 2 has a lot of Ferraris (including the great F40LM) . Both sims have good tracks that are not available in the other one (Raceroom has the rare but interesting STCC tracks, only available in Race07 ; PCars 2 has Long Beach).
I personnally value the the dynamic weather and the live track systems as awesome features, and this is why I may use a lot less the other sims (Raceroom, Assetto Corsa, Automobilista). But I'm not sure many people use it. Most of online races are set on dry because most of the simracers do not train on wet tracks (this is why the current gen sims dropped this feature). And as in Pcars1, if I set an online race with bad weather conditions, people get on the lobby and go away when they realise they're going to race on a wet track. If you think you will use a lot of this weather system, PCars 2 has a great advantage ; if for you it is just a gimmick you will use 10 minutes for fun, well, do not take it in account.
Offline racing is much better in Raceroom. Obviously, PCars 2 has more content and features, it's harder for SMS to deliver a good offline experience.
I must admit that I met in Pcars2 the same simplicity for online racing that I found in Raceroom, although it's harder to find an interesting race (in Raceroom, thanks to the ghost stupid cars system, it is possible to have a normal race almost each time).
Lastly, the price. Raceroom will cost you a lot if you buy all of the content. But you can just buy, for example, the DTM pack (cars and tracks), which should be a bargain. You can also buy only one skin for each car and avoid paying for all the skins. And you cans buy some parts from time to time. Pcars2 is a new game, it's quite expensive but for its content and the hours you will spend on it, it is not that expensive.
I can conclude that, without comparing the content, Raceroom is a more solid racing experience offline and online but lacks the awesome features of PCars2, and there may be less players on Raceroom right now. Sector 3 stated that after the GTR3 experience, they may convert Raceroom to the Unreal engine, which for sure would bring many new features (the ones that are found in Pcars2), but nothing is done, so it is difficult to count on a future to choose this Sim.
Hope you have a better idea of which one to chose.
