Mind you I'm only running 1080p, but I am going to soon try a 3 monitor eyefinity setup and see if the old rig can still hang...
In general, based on experience, avoid AMD GPUs. Did R9 290x (eventually 2x in crossfire), did the AMD cpus. They just don't live up to their spec. They are good items just not for simulation or demanding gaming.
A used, liquid cooled 980ti can be had for a reasonable price, or a new 108ti. No sense going halfway since you may end up on other sims and the nvidia is generally a better performer as are Intel CPUs. 980ti will run triples at 5760x1200 (or 1080) in the 150-200fps range. You need monitors that can keep up.
Ive been Gaming since the first pong gaming console. Had cards from both AMD(ATI back then ) and Nvidia. I never had problems with any of them ( just a fan issue from MSI on gtx970). To say avoid AMD GPU is nuts, just get the right card for the right money regardless of brand.
I still remember ATI Radeon 9700PRO, killed the Nvidia cards, loved it.
R9 290x then eventually 2 in crossfire and rF2 struggled to get 50fps with all the detail off and every possible tweak. Atlanta MP, with AMD 18fps! Yep a whopping 18fps.
Switched to nvidia and without changing anything, I've locked the frame rate at 90fps. I've since turned all the detail up to full, and have run full grids of 40+ cars and it's super smooth.
The AMD GPUs also won't run ARMA 3 well struggling with 15-30fps at best in several scenarios, had issues with iRacing with an ever present stutter, Red Orchestra 2 had issues with slow frame rate, pCARS was impossible (this is where a good part of the whole nvidia manipulation was uncovered was people pushing for answers on the pCARS forums after their Ponzi Scheme started ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, this game had issues with AMD struggling to keep 50-60fps while with the exact same setup using intel and nvidia I'm at 150-200fps. Every problem went away with a simple swith to nvidia. Sorry. Hands on facts.
