Test driving cars before buying ?

Hello all, I am thinking of downloading the game in order to try it. I went to the official website and I saw all the content you can buy and it says :

ANY CAR, ANY TIME
YOU CAN TEST DRIVE ANY CAR TO HELP YOUR PURCHASING DECISION

but how do you do that ?

Go to store ingame, find the car you want and then under the buy option there is a test drive option. Then you get 5minutes on track with the car, and when 5 minutes is up then you get sendt back to store. But you can start it all over again after if you want to, so new 5minutes...

PS: I can see also the PACKS which offer many cars and tracks (like the Pro Pack). With so many cars (and tracks) do I have to keep a list of everything so that - by mistake - I don't buy a car (or a track) I already purchased. That is to say would the check out tell me you already have the car (or the track) in question ?

I have read previously that the game automatically credits content already purchased off of the full pack prices.

I'm also new and found you can compete in the lap time comps with content you don't own.
