Yerma quest and possible bug before Two Moons boss

So, I never talked to the NPC as I was still exploring and the gate behind her was closed. Then when I unlocked the boss room, the NPC was already in there and dead. I cannot find information information if this process is intended or not, but both the NPC quest and the boss where bugged a year ago. Is there any information available on the state of the interactions in this version of the game?
