So you can cheese the boss? Who cares. This has nothing to do with OP's point.
The boss is annoying as hell the learn when fighting it legit.
What about his way of fighting isn't legit? Isn't the game all about finding gaps to attack and stay safe?
It took me several hours, but I have to say that this is a fair fight in and of itself. All of the moves are predictable and can be countered, and they all come in the same order in each fight. They keys for me were:
- Dodging. Parrying really is not effective outside of his upward slash, so dash away or through him
- Learning the exact number of hits you can safely get in after any move. This is critical. Once you've performed this number, dash away and get ready for the next move (which is always predictable)
- Similarly, learning the safe time to use a flask is just as important.
- On my first victory over him, I used all 3 rosary beads that reduce physical damage. This is enough to buy you an extra hit or two before needing to use a flask
- Resonances can make a big difference, but I found the most useful one to be the combination that stops time when you use a flask. This is enough time to use a spell or get in position for an attack
What is garbage is that this fight is preceded by unskippable cut scenes and a super-easy fight that doesn't help you train at all for the one after. I found those parts to be far more annoying than the phase 2 fight itself, and they were the only reason it even took me as long as it did to improve on the second phase.
Truth - Love Blasphemous 1 and this game is good so far, but this is by far one of the worst things to happen in these games.
you actually prove how bad this fight is. You're saying it's about memorization. This isn't FF. Bosses in games like this should be beatable by response, not memorization. The other bosses in the game were. I cleared them all in 1-2 tries. This boss is horribly designed

This 1000%
The fight is fair and can be fun when you learn how the boss works but the fact that you need to go through TWO unsinkable long cutscenes every time you need to retry is idiotic beyond comprehension
