Rat skulls rosary beads and Martyrdom points

Hello, I would like to know if, after reaching 40 martyrdom points trough combat, the rat skulls rosary beads, that are descreibed as increasing the martyrdom points you earn, become useless and are safe to unequip, or if they somehow give more points when you defeat a boss.

The number of martyrdom points from bosses are fixed. There are 75 total points in a single playthrough. 35 from bosses and pickups (which are fixed) and 40 through combat (which can be boosted by the beads).

After hitting 40 through combat, the rat skull beads are useless.
