But maybe i am missing something and the story is much deeper then that somehow
As for the Miracle, it's an invisible power that converts human emotions, dreams and psyche into reality, usually something grotesque and harmful.
The Twisted One is, as far as I can tell, the only character object of veneration in the Blasphemous universe that is benevolent towards humanity.
As for the plot of Blasphemous 2, I am still trying to figure it out. I'm not sure why the various boss characters try to stop the Penitent One in his quest, or even what the Penitent One's quest is supposed to be.
Basically in Blasphemous 1 you succesfully got rid of "the Miracle", as in the idea of it. You kinda won and put an end to it's madness for a while. But MIracle didn't die or disappear, albeit it was weakened. With all it's will, Miracle focused on one pair that desired for a child and chanelled it's will through them, creating the new Miracle. And people who witnessed the birth became it's saints or whatever you'd want to call it.
Miracle 2.0 actually has nothing to do with The Miracle and it has no agency of it's own and doesn't even know what it's purpose. So you KINDA can think of it as the "man create ultimate machine and it become self aware" kinda way. All that Child of a Miracle knows that it was born with a purpose and that people really crazy about it. Which is kinda the important part of a 2nd game, since by the time you reach it, you still don't have any clue why or what not.
I honestly don't know what the deal with Penitent squad. The Penitent One is understandable - he doesn't want the perpetuation of suffering through faith, so he gathers sins and guilt and fights in behalf of all Custodia. The rest of the gang seems to have no agenda other than "We need to protect the child".
The woman that follows you through the game is just a neutral observer. Probably born of original miracle. Her goal is just to witness what has to happen. Sorta like an angel that convey will of universe to chosen few.
Penitent one just took a nap in a stone sarcophagus. And he was probably moved around a bunch for processions and what not. People of Custodia really love processions.
As for the second ending - there is a place called "The Dream" where everything ends up be. If you are not alive and not bound to reality in some way (as a ghost of a holy corpse), you are sent to the Dream, which is actual after life. So after fulfilling his role, Penitent one ascend into a dream, no longer bound by duty. Which is interesting, since Penitent one been to Dream a bunch of times, tho never in his own and place looked kinda ♥♥♥♥.
