(I know some people say it is easy, etc, but it is just a few sweaty tryhards who think it is a cool flex to say that, game is impossibly hard).
It has the same deal as the first game: do the cursed letter quest and you will get something incredibly OP. In the 1st game it was the shield prayer, here is a different one.
You can also bait the boss with jump attack mace and starting fire pillars, he will BBQ himself.
Except that none of the powerful items are accessable before beating some key and very difficult bosses.
Platforming and exploratio is normal, but difficulty of bosses is very variable. First two or three bosses are kinda normal for a minimum equipement you can find.
Another three or fours were suddently supereasy, i beat them without any preparation, with zero tactic, so much easy.
But last few bosses is hell on earth in Dark Souls style, several times higher difficulty than first three bosses, even with most of upgrades and powerups. Very unfair and sudden difficulty spike.
I liked this game so much, but just until Hymn boss. Dirty trick from devs if you ask me.
I spent more time trying to clear that challenge room than ANY of the bosses because that one enemies damage output is so retardedly overclocked, that ♥♥♥♥ needs a nerf like yesterday.
Concerning exploration: like everyone, I had moments of supreme frustration with the instant-death spike pits in Blasphemous, but on the whole I did not mind them so much. I find the traversal "puzzles" in Blasphemous 2 to be far more tedious, and the arena areas to be far more annoying, by far. Combined with the aesthetic, music and story/lore of Blasphemous 2 being less dark and interesting -- in my opinion -- than Blasphemous, and the amount of backtracking being much higher in a much bigger map (despite better fast-travel), I have to say that I enjoyed exploration in Blasphemous more.
Quite. But one can always hope.
