The giant hand that increases fervor

Can someone explain to me why? I can't open the door behind the giant fervor-increasing hand. I know that the guy/merchant behind the gate should give you the key, but he doesn't sell me anything anymore.
I state that I refused all the times to kiss the giant hand when I met him for the first time, I don't know if this could have caused the problem

Not kneeling doesn't affect this quest line.
Merchant in the prison sell you items that you otherwise can't obtain, so it meant you haven't failed this questline yet and can finish it naturally.

Hint for the quest line:
Confessor not the biggest fan of the massive floating hand

Solution:
After you get all the fervor upgrades, confessor should give you the key for the back room, which will explain his disdain for a floating hand. Not sure if you need to use confessor's services to get it, but i had his quest line nearly complete as well, by the time i got the key.

I went to the confessor and he didn't give it to me, went to the cage merchant and he had it for sale. It sounds like if the merchant doesn't have it, try the confessor.
