Gonna have to see what speed runners do to see what the best weapon to start with is going to be. If you start with the other weapons first, you can get their 2nd tier upgrades faster but if you start with Ruego you can get its 2nd tier a little later and also double jump.
From my testing it looks like the dps depends on the enemy. I think some enemies have weaknesses and speedrunners will exploit that. But generally, they will definitely use Ruego al Alba. Three plunge attacks on Eviterno's first phase and he's dead in 15 seconds MAX with a jack of all trades build.
Ruego Al Abla is most "familiar" because it's pretty much Mia Culpa. It got some of the better combos and well balanced for most situations. I rarelly used blood pact and it was my most underused weapon, because it's MIa Culpa. It's just mia Culpa. I have 55 hours of playing with Mia Culpa. It got both parry and dash attack (in the air), but nothing that makes it particulary good for aerial combat, other than nice coverage. Has best stats for finishers,
Sarmiento and Centella is most difficult to use and i found it's gimmick hard to utilize, unless you can avoid getting hit, BUT in late game, durning certain fights and specific enemies, you can pretty much do a no hit kill, because how busted dash slash is. Kinda difficult to use in the air and some of the directional attacks are slower than normals, but it got a lot of versatility, especially if you use a lot of aerial attacks and dashes. I am pretty sure you can't get finishers with it tho.
As a side note: it doesn't matter what weapon you use if you remember about prayers. Unless you are going for a full guilt run, you can get a lot of damage on bosses through prayers, so in a weird way, Veredicto with fervor bonuses could be the best weapon, because some bosses are trivialized by casting Aubade to the Sleepless Iron.
Oh wow, that is a really good point on Veredicto
That's why I didn't use it that much, honestly. Come on, we finally get 2 new weapons and people telling me I shall go with the sword again, after almost 200 hours of using it in B1? Nope, thanks.
And this. Embrace the mace, speak the quick verse, kiss thine altarpieces and never go back to your old, sinful ways. I especially liked that bloodwheel spinning on the ground. You can cast it midair and it will suspend you in the air and shoot down diagonally. This was quite useful against some enemies and even bosses, as it allows you to stay in the air longer and get in a powerful attack at the same time. It's also quite cheap. I didn't even cheese with time stop and invincibility, I imagine this could be super broken with constant supply of fervor.
Honestly, I didn't have that much fun with a mace weapon since Brigitte was first introduced to Overwatch and completely ruined the game for a while... ^^
