I think if they let you earn all the EXP quickly, you'd have everything with nothing to work towards (if unlocking things is all you want to do) then you'd have to wait for future updates/Spirits/Items
Maybe earning a bit more EXP for doing things (while changing clothes, room look etc) I am sure they'll think of something once they start working on new stuff/features.
Edit: You have 120 hours in it... I don't know how you didn't get enough EXP within that time to unlock everything.
it become slower and slower i did the bonus EXP every day but it too little to level up....
and i calculated how many level i need if i want to buy all stuff i need up to 60lv..... i only 34 now.....i couldn't image how long i got this level....
Wow... I had no idea they made it that difficult to level up to max level... Here I am with only 10+ hours in it and I'm at level 15. I thought I would probably get to finish up the 4 Achievements I have left before even hitting 20 hours.
They definitely need to fix that. It's like they turned it into a slow grind for the end game (the last 4 achievements and the other items left to get) more exp or lower the base exp limit.
It should not take that long. Not for a single thing, especially just to get more exp....
Of course, I like Spirit City for the most part. I just highly dislike the experience/leveling aspect.
Since there aren't many Spirits to collect, the EXP gain drops pretty heavily. If they add more, that would help balance it a bit (but since they are focusing on fixes issues/bugs, I don't know how long it would take until they did add them)
The Daily Login/Daily Task and Timer gives a decent boost in EXP but that's daily and it isn't "that" good (you will spend most of your time in-game to up the exp gain 1 exp every minute.
If they can just up the EXP gain for the people who collected every Spirit already, that would help. I only need the lvl 20/30/40/50 Spirit lvl Achievements left to collect... but someone who put over 120 hours into the game only managed to reach lvl 34.
So, yeah. They need to work on the EXP when they can. It shouldn't stress you out, I'm not. I'm just sad that there aren't more Spirits (stuff etc and more interactions) and because the EXP gain isn't as good as it should be.
It feels like a slow grind so, I might just wait to continue playing for long periods and just do my daily stuff.
Yes, we never expected folks to want to level up so quickly! Clearly, we were wrong.
We're looking at it. We just don't have anything to announce yet. There are other more pressing issues we'd like to tackle first.
Balancing the game around folks who use it casually to work and study, vs power users who will keep it running 24 hours is tough!
As always, we're open to suggestions, and know that we're listening.
I might sound like a broken record saying this, but we are a team of 3, with one artist and one programmer, so we can't tackle every issue immediately.
I hope you understand, and know that the xp/leveling system is something on our list.
Could the programmer increase the daily login to 400-500xp? Or just add more xp/ minute? It'd help a bit!
I don't blame you. But as one of the Team Members has mentioned
So, I'd say wait to see what happens and then decide on whether or not you want/should buy it or skip/pass.
As for the Dev... I don't think anyone is going to leave this game up for 24/7, I assume anyways (unless it's used as a Lofi radio on Twitch Stream) Someone put over 120+ hours into it and only managed to get to lvl 34.
The EXP is definitely way slower to get once you find every Spirit. Why didn't you guys do some math, see how much exp it'll take to get to end lvl (lvl 50) to see how long it would take someone to reach it (adding enough spirits to reach lvl 50 within a good enough time)
You tied the Spirit-olgy (I forgets how you spell it) Spirit lvl to Achievements (10/20/30/40/50) If people want to get all the achievements, they are going to end up at a EXP wall that will slow their progress down. I mean, if someone can't get all the achievements below 50-ish hours (especially for a game like this) there is definitely something wrong.
I don't think adding more EXP should be that difficult for you guys to do. You made the game and put the EXP system in it, after all. Just up the EXP number in the code and huzzah, we get more exp.
I think the main EXP gain should just be increased (finding spirits, daily stuff and every min) could even let people gain more EXP for browsing the items, buying them and moving around the room etc
Thank you for replying to this topic.
I think one way to balance the game for everyone could be to make it quicker to obtain 100% achievements while still having stuff in the game to unlock / buy / gain exp. So you can still keep the game running if you want to but everyone else doesn't have to be forced to idle it just for the achievements for example.
Yea for any other game I'd just skip and wait for a bigger sale anyways but I'm at a point in my life where I kind of "need" such game since I have to study and stay focussed *now*.. And it kind of will be over in like 3 weeks, after that it's not clear yet when I'd need it again. Plus, the game currently is on sale. But it sounds like that if there will be changes made, it can take some time (although I also think changing numbers for exp caps shouldn't take long).
Is there an indicator in-game how much exp total is needed for level 50? Or can one of the devs tell how much time currently is needed for 100%?
I don't blame you. As a curation reviewer, I make it a policy of mine to wait until I get all of the achievements for a game and complete all of the content before I put out a review. So I was surprised about the issue with the level achievements. I'm more than halfway past level 23 and I've been playing this for over 50 hours, so yeah. Anyway, I am surprised that more curation reviewers haven't been pointing out this flaw and all, but Spirit City is mostly a great game/app. As I mentioned, it's just the experience/leveling aspect that has me put off.
I understand. If I had known beforehand that this would end up being a slow grind (and I did my research with watching youtube videos of Spirit City and all), I might have considered putting this on hold and getting to another game on my backlog to play and review. However, I was really enthusiastic to get to this, but then yeah.
Thanks for taking the time to give feedback! We've put it a bit higher on our priorities, and will be looking at ways to make the achievements less out of reach.
I guess it's because I don't achievement hunt, though.... so I appreciate I may not understand these frustrations.
This is really good to hear! I'm sure you'll find a good solution everyone will be happy with. I think I'm going to buy it later.
