[Tech discussion] CPU/GPU game performance
Hello! This is a discussion thread around the game's CPU and GPU performance.

We understand that most players will want to run this game along other softwares, and that our app needs to be as lightweight as possible. This is why it's our priority to make Spirit City: Lofi Sessions as efficient and optimized as possible.

If you're experiencing performance issues, the best way to alleviate the load on your machine is to lower the FPS count with the in-game settings.

We're also planning on adding more settings to help fine-tune the game's performance.

We'd like to be able to implement additional graphic settings such has:
  • Being able to set a FPS cap for when the game is minimized
  • Adjusting the game's resolution scale (%)
  • Adjusting the different graphics features quality like shadows or anti-aliasing
We think these would add tremendous value to the game.

Edit: We added many more graphic settings in-game including those:
  • Being able to set a FPS cap for when the game is minimized
  • Adjusting the game's resolution scale (%)

Let us know in the comments your thoughts about performance!

I wonder if it would be possible to have a way to disable the graphics to a static image and only listen to the music and timer when necessary, with the option to re-enable the graphics when desired without interrupting other features such as the music select.
Thank you.
By the way I love the music and the vibes of this program.

I love the application already! :)

Here's what I'd like to see: The Target frame rate - Focused setting currently doesn't seem to be dependent on whether the game is in focus or not. In addition to that I'd love to see a setting for Unfocused, similar to what you already listed. I can't think of a reason to have any target framerate higher than 0 when then game is minimized though.

Being able to turn off bloom would help a lot for slower computers. Shadows also tend to be GPU heavy. An option to lower the resolution of those could improve performance. (At least in my experience when it comes to modding games like skyrim.)

My journal stops writing while writing in Korean. Please check this part. Thank you for making such a good game.

Thank you. I just bought this and i'm absolutely loving all the features but it's being a bit too demanding on my CPU. More graphics settings would be great!

I have had no performance issues running this game at all since it's launch as I have a high end computer but I do advocate for more video quality settings to be implemented, and also add other graphic options like bloom, shadows, texture quality, lighting effects, etc. for others to use for better performance. :needy_heart:

really looking forward to the future updates that make this app more lightweight. would love to use it next to my development software at work, but right now it's barely able to do so on a decently high-end machine, I think a lot of optimization is possible!

I'm glad you're considering allowing users to turn off the Unreal Engine shader effects like bloom, ray-tracing, shadows, internal rendering resolution, or anti-aliasing.

That said, this is a very graphics-intensive "background program"... It's taking up 99% of my GPU (even when not focused), 40% of my CPU, and runs at less than 20 FPS in 1080p.

I'm WELL aware of the minimum system requirements listed on the Store page, as my work All-In-One has an Intel i5-7400 @ 2.4ghz, and Intel HD Graphics 630 onboard, and has NO RIGHT to "play" this game at the moment. XD

I'm also glad to hear you're considering actually getting this to run like a proper "background application". I can't wait for that.

BUGS I'VE NOTICED:
I ended up having two copies of the game running by accident (double clicked a shortcut on my taskbar). It nearly consumed my computer in fire. :D Does UE have a check instance function to make sure the game is not running twice?

For the Journal, is it possible to have the text box scroll down with the cursor? When typing in that window and you have a lot of text, the cursor is hidden below the bottom of the textarea, so you can't see what you're typing.

I've had two UE Fatal Crashes leading to bluescreens on Windows 11 running this game. The game will crash seemingly randomly and attempting to forceclose the application via task manager results in a kernel power error. Both times after trying to close the game after a crash.

EDIT

I should mention I'm on a i7-12700H with an ARC A370M. Game runs loud, too.

Just as feedback, I am using a Lenovo Legion S7 with an AMD Ryzen 9 6900 and an AMD ATI Radeon RX 6650 XT and it does, for some reason, blow the fans pretty loudly for such a light, mostly unmoving game. I don't have this usually with other games, and contrary to others in the forum the game is lag-free and loads basically instantly for me. So it's really just the mystery fan activity that I notice where I wonder if there's an optimization issue :)

Beefy PC no isssue running it, but when minimized in the background it should more intelligently reduce resources (FPS to 0, etc). Other games do this. Good luck!

Ryzen 7 3800X
RTX 3070
and no issues here, not even when running other software, the only thing i've noticed are some graphical bugs like parts of the character body not loading sometimes after changing clothes.

I don't know why, but this "game" open sometime many "Epicwebhelper", a program from Epic Games launcher and they take A LOT of memory to the point of saturating an SSD by taking 100% of its memory, sometimes(not always) even after you close this game.
So, if you see your computer run really badly after launch Spirit City, check this program in your task manager and force the close.

Maybe it's just a "coincidence" on my side each time I open this software, so if others can test it on their side too... Thanks ^^

This game runs well and looks good on my computer, only issue is it makes my fans run like crazy, even at 30fps at 1080p. It's not exactly relaxing to hear the fans running in the background.
