"Changing to enhanced graphics or any of the other proposed things DID NOT work for me - HOWEVER this BELOW worked(found it on videogamegeek.com forum). I'm in Year 4 now yay.
I found this proposed solution - going to try it :
There is a fairly common glitch in this level, which even upgrading to Win8 didn't manage to solve (all the other bugs seem to have gone with using the max requirements):
Near the beginning, after building some big flowers that fan you up to a ledge, you are required to do a spell on some statues that breathe fire, melting ice in front of a door you need to go through. What happens is that when you do a spell on them, everything freezes and the game crashes (sometimes even needing hard shutdown on the computer).
Some people have had luck with two-player mode, doing the spell and then quickly switching to other player standing down near the flowers, because what seems to crash the game, is the animation of the statues breathing fire.
However, I have found a solution that does work, without having to fiddle with several characters (and if you are late switching, game freezes still).
Here we go though:
*Go to C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\WB Games\LEGO Harry Potter\ (on XP)
or C:\Users\your username\Appdata\Roaming\WB Games\Lego Harry Potter\ (on Win8)
*Find a file called pcconfig.txt, back it up (I just saved a copy on the desktop, to use whenever needed), and then change DesiredDynamicLightQuality to 0 (near the bottom of the file). That is basically what is causing the problems. Although I read in some forum post or another, that Tt answered someone who contacted them, to change everything below MouseSensitivity to 0, so if you want to be extra sure...
That will cause all the lights to look weird, but at least the game doesn't crash anymore.
*After finishing the level, follow the same path again and replace pcconfig with the one you backed up earlier (you did back it up, right?), to get your original settings back. You do have to quit the game and restart it for it to work of course. Just sayin'. "
What am I supposed to do? >_>
Thanks but it didn't work for me :(
I'm still stuck in this level and can't play the game past it...
- two players
- stand on both end of the level
- aim with one player on the statue
- release the button and quickly open menu before impact
- drop out
The explosion is off screen and no crash happens.
The rest of the game works fine.
Worked like a charm! Thank you! For anyone who is a little confused, the directory is slightly different on windows 8. For me it's located at C:\Users\your user name here\AppData\Roaming\WB Games\LEGO® Harry Potter
Thanks regardless to the person. AnticChii, that made the file change suggestion as well. Maybe one day they will quit putting out new LEGO game after another and actually resolve and make fixes to the issues that are there with some of the already existing ones.
