Game needs patch for crashing issues
Hi All,
This game crashes and they are still selling it, however, they are not going back to patching the game. This isn't right. I wouldn't recommend anyone purchase this game until the crashes are fixed.

You would be surprised how many games are being sold on Steam that would probably crash on systems running the latest OS. If you're running Win 8, try compatibility settings or reinstall DierctX 9.0.

I had the crashing issue, roughly every half hour or so. I changed the launch options and it seems to have fixed it.

Game Menu> Properties > Set Launch Options
Type in:
-dxlevel 90

That should set it to launch using DirectX 9

just find the solution, because the version is quite old, so they don't recognise any sound ouput except 16 bit or 24 bit 44100Hz and 48000Hz. click on the speaker and find the speaker properties (click on the icon above the volumn bar in win8) and choose the advance tab and you can change the default format as above.

CHANGING THE SOUND SETTINGS WORKED PERFECTLY! THANK YOU!

If you use Realtek HD Audio Manager. Just go to Audio Manager > Default Format > 24bit 44100 or 48000hz
i wish i could help but i just got this yesterday im win 8.1 and iv not had a single problem but after reading other peoples problems im expecting one xD

I played for a long time, didn't have a crashing issue till I got to year three, rescueing sirius. Now it crashes at the same point every time.

I've got problems too. I bought this game four days ago and it crashes about six times! It's very confusing, because it crashes only when going into the menu... Then I can't do anything, nothing happens and nothing moves. The only chance is to close the game completely and start it again. Surely, I have to play it again from the last saving point... That makes me feel disappointed, cause I was so glad about playing this. :/

followed the advice in this post-
http://steamcommunity.com/app/21130/discussions/0/618458030678089713/
and it fixed the crashing issue in year 3 when rescuing Sirius (dark tower), then finished the level and set it back and -knock on wood- so far so good. no more crashing. that seems to be the only issue i've had with it so far. it really is a fun game so i'm glad that fixed it.

@stopper120- this is probably a silly question but have you tried verifying your game cache?

Hmmm, i'v been using 24bit 48000hz and i keep having random crashes (year 1). So i'll give 44100 a shot, and probably that trick about switching to having the game use dx9.

I guess i'll give people an update on how these little tricks work out. Changing the adio doesnt seem to fix the issue.

Give this user a cookie. I run 24-bit @ 192 kHz and changing it to 24-bit @ 48 kHz stopped the startup crash. :steamhappy:

Can confirm, was also at 192 kHz and swapped to 48 kHz to fix to the startup crash issue. :fishing:

oh my god, thanks!! I bought this game TWICE on cd-r, and thought that was the problem, but the steam game had the same issue. I pressed the windows+R buttons, then typed %appdata% and went to the WB Games folder, the lego harry potter folder, and found the pcconfig.txt file there. I couldn't find it otherwise.
FINALLY after so long, I've been able to play all the way to the end of year 3. SO READY to start year 4.
I don't get why they haven't fixed this problem... and still sell it broken.
