LEGO® Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Lego Harry Potter Yrs 1-4 won't start
When I launch the game, a black window opens and then after a few seconds it closes. It is still in my task bar, but selecting it just gives the same thing... opens a black window for a couple seconds and then it closes/minimizes.

I have tried changing my audio settings to various low settings. I have tried editing the UseHires and UseHiresPending in the pcconfig.txt to 0... still no dice.

I use windows 8.1.
2 AMD Radeon HD 6700s in Crossfire or whatever the AMD version of Crossfire is.

What else can I tell you so that I play Lego Harry Potter? Thank you.

I am having the same problem, but wondering is this the first time you try to launch it? Been playing it for motnhs and it was working all fine then one day it decided to not start, same thing, black screen then an icon on the toolbar that doesn't do anything. Also tried the sound thing but nothing happened sooo idk, really annoying though

For those still struggling...

My boyfriend found this on redit and it DID work.

"Fixed it for me so thought I'd share how I did it incase someone else can be helped by this:
I went to C:\Users\${USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Where ${USERNAME} obviously is your login name for your PC, in that directory there is a file named pcconfig.txt, open it and modify the screen resolution to what you want to use, for me I wanted 1920x1080 and it was incorrectly set in the file at 1280x720 so was failing to start, I changed my file to look like:

ScreenWidth 1920
ScreenHeight 1080
WindowWidth 1920
WindowHeight 1080

And now the game launches just fine. Hope it helps someone else."

This is my first day using steam, I bought 2 games, a cheap mahjong one and this one. The mahjong started just fine, the lego game doesn't even install. And yet for some reason it says that I have played the game for 1 minute, I haven't even seen the games window! It simply doesn't open. Every time I try a little dark grey window opens (from steam) and it says: performing first time setup (step 1 of 1), which I have now seen over 20 times, every time I click the play button on steam or the lego shortcut icon on my desktop, first a window appears asking me if I allow steamservice.exe to run, which I click "yes", then the small dark grey window appears and after a while it just disappears and nothing happens.
Someone please tell me I did not just waste 19.99 on a game I can't play
