Good controller for LEGO Games ?
Hello,

I just bought some of the LEGO games on PC, enjoying summer sales here. I really liked the Star Wars series on Wii, and I wanted to play it again on PC.

Unfortunately, I have realized how difficult it is to play with the keyboard. I mean, not difficult, but not really comfortable. Plus I'd really like to play with friends in coop.

I was wondering if you could tell me if Super Nintendo's replica controllers (USB) would be good for this type of game ? I am not looking to play Assassin's Creed or a racing game with it, just the LEGO Games. Bought Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman... I have some levels to go around.

I have seen some offers on Amazon and ebay, packs of 2 SNES controllers, and it looks okay. I'd like to know if some of you guys used this controllers for something else than retro gaming with an emulator, and if it could work well with LEGO/similar games.

I would like a similar controller because it looks simple to use and it is cheap. I already played with Xbox/Logitech controller, but I am moving a lot and I don't want to be hoarding controllers around.

Thank you very much.

Will

In my opinion an X-Box and/or the Logitech F310 Gamepad have felt the most comfortable with all of my Controller compatible games on Steam, despite having spent almost my whole life using Nintendo systems and hardware almost exclusively when not using a keyboard and mouse. I'm not sure if this will make much sense, but I find the Nintendo controllers are ultimately more comfortable (for me personally) overall, but something about the first two previously mentions controller felt better for PC Gaming. However it will ultimately come down to what feels more natural and easier to you. I thought I would be more comfortable with Nintendo controllers but my "Perfect fit" of sorts for a controller for my PC happened to be the Logitech F310 I mentioned above, which was surprising and a completely out of left field thing, because I still find any Nintendo controller more comfortable over all. My best advice would be to try out what you like most if X-Box/Logitech controllers are working for you and feel right then stick with them. If they feel a bit off to you then try the Nintendo remake controllers to see if those are the right fit, but I'll agree in a heartbeat that the Keyboard controls are cramped and uncomfortable, and almost any controller will fell more comfortable than the Keyboard controls will.

No problem. Controller sugestions for PC games are always a bit tricky because it's more what feels best person to person and the wrong one can be just as bad as the cramped keyboard controls. Hope you find the controller that fits you best and happy gaming!

If you have a console (especially a PS4), I would recommend you to use InputMapper. It's super easy to install, very good to use, and works wonderfully. You just install InputMapper, then hook up your controller to the PC via USB, assign a profile, and you're ready to go.

I don't have a console, but that seems to be a pretty interesting tool for those who don't want to change controllers on PC ! Thank you for your answer :)

I play with my PS4 controller as i personally think its more contorable than the xbox controller and you can also use the touch pad as a mouse..

Personally, I find it more comfortable to use my XBox 360 controller (that I got for PC) than my Saitek (shaped like a DS2, as you use the analogue stick a lot more than the dpad. Lego games support both types of controller natively as well.

I can't suggest a good controller, but i can suggest keybindings that i have found comfortable (i forgot what their actually key names are).

Movement: WASD
Jump: Space
switch characters: Num8
Target Spell/attack:Num6
Use spell: Num4
Scroll through spells: Return/Enter and RShift

I just set it up like i would play a normal PC game. Of course i wish i could use the mouse, but oh well. Be warned though, driving is still a bloody pain.
