LEGO® Harry Potter: Years 1-4

LEGO® Harry Potter: Years 1-4

Bugs bugs bugs glitches bugs...worst LEGO game I've played by a long shot
Anyone else having issues with two player local co-op and the second controller dropping out? Game has been a bug/glitch fest, can't wait to uninstall, am on Year 4 just after running from the dragon and escaping in to the first room. Second controller constantly dies there (did it elsewhere in the game too just not as consistently) every time. This is by FAR the glitchiest piece of garbage LEGO game I own (almost all of them). Others have never had this issue.

Verified game files, everything fine. Rebooted computer. Options, Controller shows no input yet the controller is still lit and no USB disconnect sound was ever made.

Tried that stage three times and no luck. Sure do see a lot of posts about problems with this game. Makes me leary that I bought the LEGO movie game, was considering Jurassic Park or whatever but not if this is what I have to look forward to.

Any suggestions?

Does the game works normally if it's a single player?

I was a bit animated last night, I have a few other LEGO games that are mostly fine, one or two glitches throughout the entire game but this one has been pretty constant. Will probably wind up getting the new Jurassic one unless reviews are bad by the time it goes on sale.

After I posted this I did try that scene as single player, had her drop out, and it went fine. The other four times (tried again after I posted as two player) it had problems in the same spot. Sometimes I would lose control as first player, sometimes hers as second player, if I dropped out and she still had control she could assume control of player one, and vice versa.

I was almost thinking motherboard issues but doesn't quite seem to fit the symptoms. It had happened in other areas of Year 4 sporadically but restarting the game fixed it enough to progress a little bit. I switched the controller plugins to completely different ports as I was using one from my card reader for hers and one on top of my case for mine, swapped, no change, plugged them both in to the back directly in to the mobo, no change again.

Next time she's over I'm hoping we can just finish the game as two player without any major issues so I can just uninstall it and forget about it. Hopefully Years 5-7 is better, forum doesn't seem nearly as littered with problems.

I can't comment on co-op, because I only play as a single player. I'm using wireless Xbox 360 controller with this game and haven't had any problems at all.

I'm using wired. I don't think I had any issues with controller dropout with LOTR or Marvel Super Heroes on SP or co-op. I've played others but on a different platform so can't really apply them here. Thanks for the feedback.

Hi, I have the same problem! Only the 2nd controller disconnects as soon as i start coop free game but the keyboard works. But playing on keyboard is ♥♥♥♥.
I first used a DVD-installed version, now I use the Steam-version. But all two versions give the same controller problem.

I never had these problems in Lego Star Wars, Indy Jones 1+2 or Pirates of the Caribbean

Did you solve the issue?

Jay. :GasCan:

It's been a while since I played but I think I just wound up doing that area with single player and was ok afterwards. I haven't finished it yet either, my friend I'm playing it with hasn't been over in a while. Hopefully it doesn't continue but given what I've dealt with in that game I'm not holding my breath.

necro, did anybody find the fix for this, it just did it to us.

Nope, no fix for me beyond playing that area as SP then going back to 2 player.

I know this thread is more than 3 years old, but I found a solution for the fourth year with the dragon. We are playing coop and we experienced the 2nd controller deconnection too. My solution to validate the level was to make the first player attack the second player. Doing so, the second player moves a little. Repeat until the dragon decide to move. Try not to die as it seems any player is stuck when falling outside the map.
Just after ending the level, the first controller was also disconnected but the game progression was saved.

Late: Me too, comment. second player controller drops out randomly. Regularly in the free play dragon scene.

Also regularly when first starting, in the leaky cauldron. Have the second player join, go to the level selection pad and exit before the character studs ducks from the top. This has caused the second controller to drop out predictably.

Wow, four years later and not fixed? From what I recall, though, the LEGO games aren't well supported post-release.

Always interesting to see people add to this post, restores faith in the use of the Search function :sm: haha

Well, it is now Feb 2021 and my daughter and I are having this issue at the same place (Running away from the Dragon). So this STILL hasn't (and I don't think it ever will) been fixed.
