The only solution is buy 360 controller ...Crap.
https://inputmapper.com/
Using input mapper you must find the section in the program where you manually program every button on the controller to the key that is mapped in the game.
Got the controller to work with the game without any extra things to download. However, it does show all the buttons in the game as the Xbox controls, but it will work with the PS4 Controller. (I also did this with my controller wirelessly connected via Bluetooth. Easy to look up how to do that if you don't know.) You have to put Steam in "Big Picture Mode", go to Settings, under "Controller," click on "Controller settings" (if you have your controller connected, it will respond to the controller buttons), and click/check off the "Guide Button Focuses Steam", and " PlayStation Configuration Support" boxes, then navigate "Big Picture mode" (it's really easy) to your Library, and launch your game from there. Again, the game will now play with your PS4 controller, but it will show onscreen as Xbox controls. (I suggest you download a picture of an Xbox controller, if you are unfamiliar with the layout, so you know the PS equivalents )
This does happen with some games, but not all. I have to do this same thing with Tomb Raider (2013), but not Rise or the Tomb Raider (2016). With ROTTR, I just have to connect my controller ( I used the cord last time, have not tried wireless yet), and the keys changed on screen from Xbox controls to PS. It just depends on the game.
I've found this, a very easy way to get the PS4 controller to work on games that say they have controller support, but the controller doesn't work, really, when you launch from the desktop shortcut. If I launch the game in "Big Picture mode," after checking my controller settings are correct ( just to make sure), it works, but only so long as I stay in "Big Picture Mode".
I know some people don't like or find "Big Picture Mode" annoying, (myself included at times), but if it is the only way to use my PS controller on my PC games I will use it (and some games I find the controller easier than the keyboard, but that depends on both the game and the person. Some games are better with the keyboard, etc.).
I followed these directions and it is still not working for me. I've used my PS4 controller with other Steam games, but it refuses to work for this game. Very disappointing.
yes... i am playing this game right now, couldn't figure out how to connect my ps4 controller.
Don't know if anyone needs this
but
Just open Properties on the game on steam and select 'Controller'
and make sure you have 'Enable Steam Input' Selected
