So stupidly I have never given anime a chance. The art style really never grabbed me. However, I realize that I really never gave it a real chance.

I love '80s action movies like Robocop etc. And I love synthwave music and over the top '80s action like Kung fury, so this game totally caught my eye. After playing the demo I fell in love.

So my stupid question is since this game is so awesome and the cutscenes are absolutely amazing. What anime should I watch that this is kind of based on?

Even a person that doesn't know anime knows Akira so I know that is obviously one of them, but I'm not sure about the others. I would love suggestions!

It's amazing and set during the Mafia infested American Prohibition period. It's one of those anime you're better off watching blind. DEFINITELY watch it in English. The dub is amazing.

Obligatory recommend of Cowboy Bebop, as well.
Outlaw Star is fun sci-fi fun.
Fist of the North Star to get some MANIME.
Gundam 08th MS Team and 0080 War in the Pocket for more sci-fi goodness.
And, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, the OVA. Not the series, although the series is pretty great.

Theres a 40 chapter manhwa also called Redline which is super good, and it has some themes and settings similar to Madjack. It's probably among the top 30 of things ive read. (I'm always itching for a immortal beserker MC though so im biased ASF)
EDIT: I forgot to mention why but i recommended it since MC was similar in appearance to Fist of the north star and the first three JoJo's.

Redline is incredible! I would definitely recommend you watch that before any other film in this thread. It's definitely what you're looking for.

Yup, Redline is the space race. It took like 8-9 years to hand animate? It bankrupt the company that made it lol, but all the talent just moved to a different company and now do stuff like the gritty Lupin movies.

I got into anime with naruto, hunter x hunter, and one piece.... they are the best for a reason and id start there. Heard cyber punk on netflix is amazing.
