Crashing at Interval 3 "the L"

Game video freezes and audio keeps looping the last sound played.
Tried all fixes found in steam forum and online:
updated drivers tried swqapping audio device creative > realtek onboard
lowered resolution to minimal
uninstalled and reinstalled fear xp clean
>>>still crashes
anybody else experience this and find a proper fix?
note: i did a work around and used a cheat to bypass the interval 3 map but i'd like to play through it due to the story development elements.
any help is appreciated...

I had same problem at same position "the L".
In my case, there was no problem Loading old save one or two hours before and play again to section "the L". I think the last save data has been corrupted.

This is happening to me too. Trying to continue a save I made 2 weeks ago on "the L" and it freezes every time about 5 seconds into playing, where enemies are comming from both sides.

I just tried playing from a new save starting at the beginning of "the L". It seems as if the game does NOT freeze until the game starts rendering 3 or more enemies. This is very strange as I was able to pass this beginning section 2 weeks ago with no problems.

Perhaps there was a very small steam update that we didn't see, which screwed with the game. I don't know for sure.

I can bypass this by using a cheat to skip the level but I really don't wanna use it because I wanna play through the game and not cheat.

I'd been having the same issue. Only fix that worked for me was loading a save from Interval 2 and using the 'maphole' cheat to skip forward to "The L." Seems to be working fine now.

I had the same problem, my only solution was to grab a mega save from the internets. Bless the soul that took the time to make that save.

Same here, i load the automatic save, go for a few meters where i meet enemies, and bang, restart computer because nothing helps.

It worked for me, found somewhere else in steam forums:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\TimeGate Studios\FEARXP
modify the game.ini file, the "gameruns" to 0.
resets some options, but who cares if its solves the crash

I ended up not resuming gameplay. It might work if you try it again from a recent save game.

consegui passar apenas usando esse código 'maphole' para passar de nivel, pois tentei de tudo e sempre congelava na THE L, agora esta indo depois do uso do codigo... só assim pra resolver

I don't remember how, but I managed to pass it. I think I either loaded an earlier save game or restarted from the beginning of the level.

EDIT: NEVERMIND now I remember. I had to download a save file that has all levels unlocked and pick that level.
