Game keeps crashing on "the L"

Try compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 as well as running the game with admin rights.

Surprised to see someone else got this problem three days before me. Personally, it happenned to me at The L too but it worked when I restarted my pc. The thing is, it did the same thing to the chapter after it and this time, it won't work. So yeah, I guess we won't end this game.

Same for me after the loading screen of Interval 03 - Descent it just says disconnected from the server O.o

I think a fix for that is lowering graphics/resolution and turning force restart on, I just keep getting actual crashes tho

i've done some digging and this looks to be an extremely common problem, something to do with the save getting corrupted, or something.

i've tried every hacky solution people suggested (setting gameruntime to 0, running in windows xp compatability mode, loading a previous level) but none of them worked, so it looks like the only real solutions are to either restart the entire game from the beginning (which doesn't guarantee it won't crash again later) or skip the level using cheats (and give up all your upgrades up until that point in the process).

i've been trying to find a download for a save file to avoid doing that but so far the only one i've found is shady as hell and i don't want to run it to find out what it does. so i might just be outta luck on this one.

For that bit, I found that restarting the game and/or my PC worked. Now the game is crashing at the end of "Leviathan", after moving down the skybridge/tunnel thing and having the Hind have a go at me. I open the doors at the end, move through and the loading screen comes up, the loading bar fills, and the game crashes.

Not that I could find. I just moved on to playing the second and third games.

This game is becoming just annoying. First, the "Disconnection from Server" error. Then, fps drops, and now this. I don't know how many problems it will have in the future, but i had to search for a solution in every case, and apparently the one for "Disconnection from Server" works here, i.e., drop all the performance to the minimum before loading this part, and come back to the previous settings after it loaded. It worked for me.
Probably I will have to do the same everytime the game crashes. So, if someone is still trying to play with all these problems, i recommend him/her to do this everytime.

I think these problems are caused/exacerbated by Windows 10/newer windows updates, because on my old 660 on Windows 7 I don't remember having any problems with either expansion pack, but on my 1060/Windows 10 I've had sporadic performance issues that were solved by the DirectInput Fix/disabling certain Corsair HID devices, and now the game is crashing while trying to load interval 04 giving me an "out of memory" error. I haven't had any major issues with any other game and Windows 10 though. It's disappointing, but at least I played through the game/expansions before. It seems like an issue with the way the game handles memory etc. and the developer long abandoned the game, so I don't see it being rectified.

So if it won't play all of a sudden, lower your graphics to like, 800x600 resolution. it's unfortunate but it's about the only way to keep playing it. it's just such an old game it has a hard time rendering the details even though it goes up to like, 1920x1440

Does maybe someone have a proper save file to skip the level "the L"?
