TopWare was forced to rename the game Check vs Mate in the US because of the lawsuit filed by Interplay noted in the above Wikipedia section.

Battle Vs Chess is 1.13GB and Check Vs Mate is 985.67MB Thats the difference. Don't know if its optimization that made it shrink or cut content but Check Vs Mate is smaller.
