The game is called Check vs. Mate on the steam store page but the videos announce a game called Battle VS Chess? In my steam library i have Battle VS Chess but it doesn't want to install (i'm under linux).

This is very frustrating and i don't understand lol what is going on with this game?

CvsM and BvsC Linux ports is now in beta, so You should opt in beta first.

Yes. CvsM it's American name for BvsC.

How do i opt into beta? and what's up with the whole fuss about activation? I couldn't activate the game under Wine, but maybe under Linux the network method will work.

Here You can find everything about beta.
Just try to activate game normally (put serial and press Activation by the Internet), it works for me.

I already got the game in a bundle and because the name was changed for no apparent reasons i should pay again?

You should be able to play (without additional payments), no matter what version (BvsC or CvsM) You have.

Yea i managed to make it work, i did quit right after because of poor performances under intel HD 4000 and would relaunch under the nvidia (using optimus graphics configuration here) and it would ask again for registration.

I re-registered with the same key (?) and the game refused to load using the nvidia card.

I killed the thing and reoppened the game under intel HD 4000 and i had to re-re-register again.

This game is a mess really.

How about just remove the whole registration thing? I can guarantee nobody is going to pirate this software, really.

Also, i couldn't launch the game under wine myself but the whole beta program is just you running your game in wine (it's not Linux native, don't lie to me). How about a native build for Linux? I guess that would *really* avoid further problems (in other words, don't half-ass the job please).

Native port is not planned.
We are thinking about removing of registration, but it is hard to tell when it will be done.
Could You please, give a report about Linux wine port? Were You able to play?

I launched the game in squirmish mode.

Poor performances under intwl HD 3000.

Game refused to launch using primus.

That is all.

By primus, You mean Bumblebee primusrun?

Yes, trying to run the program under bumblebee (dedicated graphics) running in a separate X display (the 8th one, default bumblebee behaviors)
