Multiplayer - easy solution to make it work
To be able to host a multiplayer game, you need to have the following ports opened:
14297 UDP
14298 UDP
They can't be blocked by any firewall/router so add appropriate rule to your firewall and/or router (port forwarding does the thing). After that just give your friend your global IP, start the game, let them join you and enjoy.

Another solution already mentioned by others here is to use software like Hamachi, which emulates LAN and also lets you play.

Hope that helps.

I don't think there is such a port available for any connection. What do you need it for, anyway?

Well, you need to properly configure your firewall (Windows has one and it's enabled by default) by either opening this specific port or simply letting an application (in this case your game) to be able to establish connection. And if you connect to the Internet through a router, you also need to configure it (look for Port Forwarding in the manual).

I hope it helped.

Wow, thanks. I've been trying to find which ports the game uses, because I want to avoid Hamachi. Why on earth they don't give these port numbers anywhere in the game screens or in the manual? I don't know how you figured them out, but thanks lots!

what is "ports"?

When you connect to a device, you need its IP address. Ports are like different gates to the building. Different applications and services use different ports. For example, standard port for HTTP protocol (Internet websites) is 80. So, if you want some application to work, you have to open specific "gates" for it to be able to access your computer.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this works; thanks! How did you find the ports needed??!

EDIT: I also found this post....

Apparently yours is the MAC version and I was suppose to have used the PC version(since I'm running windows), but the MAC worked anyways....
