Game won't Start!
Please what are the solutions to this problem?
I just got the game, did the activation, received an email that my activation was successful.
But when I try to play it, nothing happens. nothing shows up, not even an error for me to know what the problem is.

What do I do pls?

This is what Lost Shadow posted in his thread about the same problem:

PROBLEM SOLVED as I figured out the source of the problem just now. Okay then, for those who have same problem as mine, you need to change a setting on your .exe in your local file. Simply just go to:

-Battle vs Chess Properties, click 'Browse local file' button. This will pop up a folder which contain your .exe file.
-Right click the .exe file and change the compatibility mode in the properties option based on windows you're using.

Hope this helps. There is no problem with the game. Just need some manual setting on compatibilty issue in order to get this game to work.
Cheers.

Yeah, I've tried that. Still didn't work :((

I have this some problem. I use Windows 7 x64 and the compatibility mode uses Windows XP SP2, but doesn't work, the game doesn't run and doesn't have any error message.

This appears to be another possibility:

Again, not 100% success rate, but worth a look.

Have you tried emailing or calling Topware? I perceive their response may not be good either but I wouldn't know personally as I haven't (yet) needed to contact them. :-/

I would also suggest trying a different computer if you can, but I cannot recommend that without confirmation that it would not be a problem to do so with the possible activation limits or possible hardware DRM etc. There does not appear to be any clear answer as some users are fine and some users are not.

Thanks. that link helped indeed. The solution that worked for me was that I opened the activation.exe using my Nvidia card. Once I finished the activation, the game worked fine!

Guys! I had the same issue, tried all the suggestions of community (in vain), but I asked Steam Support - and they really helped!!! They proposed solution which from the first look was some "reboot"-like general stuff, but it worked! I still can't believe this! :) Here is the quote:
"
Please exit Steam and go to the folder called C:\Program Files\Steam\ (this is the default location for a Steam installation - if you set a different installation directory, you will need to browse to it).

Delete all of the files in this folder except:

- Steamapps and Userdata folders

- Steam.exe (this file is listed as an application and features the black and white Steam logo)

Restart your computer.

Then, launch Steam.exe from within the Steam installation folder, and not from a pre-existing shortcut.

With Steam running, re-test the original issue.

Note: This process will not affect your currently installed games.

Additionally, please complete this process for your installed game(s):

Title: Verifying Game Cache Files (GCF)
Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335

NOTE: There may be files that fail to validate. This is normal and can be ignored.
"

So at the first Steam launch it downloads some stuff, about 100Mb. The game asks for the registration again after this. And then runs! Hope it helps you!

Btw, this can also be it! Recently I setup my Nvidia options to run everything with Nvidia card by default (not Intel embedded). So since I had re-run registration with the Nvidia card, it could help.

If you have a Nvidia Graphic Card, just change the default graphic card to the integrated graphic card such as Intel, only for this game (right click on the game exe file).

i buyed the DVD of Battle vs Chess, after 16 mails to TOPWARE, i received Steam key, i did not buy a steam key, i buyed the DVD, but they did not find a solution to make the DVD work.

In Steam i needed to reactivate my account, finally i never received the code to trust my new computer, send mail to Steam, no reply ! - So i needed to make a new account.

And yes the key worked. - But my past history games i buyed from Steam i lost !!

This morning wanted to play the chess game - no Steam connection !!

Thats the reason i prefer software on dvd without acces via server.

:{ not happy with Steam and Topware
