Improving Realistic Hair Textures and Styling Options in Barberhop VR
Hi everyone! I really enjoy the concept of Barberhop VR, but I feel there’s a lot of room for improvement when it comes to the realism of hair textures and styling options. Right now, the hair doesn’t feel very realistic, and it’s frustrating that we can’t create popular styles like fades, tapers, or even layered cuts. Here are some ideas I think could take the game to the next level:

Improved Hair Textures:
The current hair textures don’t feel very natural, and it would be amazing if the developers could make hair look and respond more realistically to cutting and styling. Different hair types (straight, curly, coily) would add realism and variety to each haircut.

More Advanced Styling Options
I’d love to see options for fades, undercuts, and other popular techniques. Right now, the tools and styling options feel limited, which makes it hard to create anything close to real hairstyles.

hope this gets updated soon!

Hi! Thanks for the feedback! I'm currently working on an update that will enable fades by adding a layer under the current hair strands. Unfortunately, regarding having realistic hair like the one you're describing, we think this is not something a VR system can handle due to the complexity of interactive hair simulation. if you look at other games that are similar and for VR, they even have hair at all, it's more like a foam :) and for games that are non-VR, you can easily tell your graphics card is working at full power to render the hair (and those aren't VR games) (IMO, I think that's the reason why such a game doesn't exist in VR yet)

that said, I'm always looking for ways to make the hair better, if you compare the first released version https://youtu.be/QBwgLrkqIVo?si=WJUr5Mux89z32Wlc&t=31 and the current one. it shows how far I was able to get hair simulation done in VR. from non brushable fur like style to actual strands of hair that are brushable, trimmable and colorable.

I hope with the upcoming hair coverage layer and fades, it will make it feel better!
