what do the obelisks and orange triangle panels do?
What's the purpose behind unlocking them? they don't contribute to the ending, the theatre, or the secret ending/achievement thing so what's the point of them? Do they do anything?

I can solve them but what do they do?

Obelisks are for fun, they have no actual purpose other than giving you something else to do.

The scattered triangle puzzle panels teach you how triangles work before you get to the area where they are used extensively.

so it's a waste of time? really? why then? why leave something so obviously unfinished in the game and then launch with it?

Oh cause ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ philosiphy garbage about how I shouldn't play games for a purpose but just the journey blah blah garbage audio logs.

The obelisks also make the fountains in the lake higher. Still not much. I enjoyed finding most of them. As for the philosophy of their message, I thought it was more like, "There's more to see in the world than what you're looking at." Or, "Look at the world from a new perspective and see connections to the rest of the world."

I understood the triangle panels after just a few of them, so I don't know if they did more than teach you. I did them all before I got to the end. I thought maybe you needed them to activate the triangle pillar in the caves before you could solve that one. Anyone know for sure?

The triangle panels each have a corresponding thing in the lake. Solving the panel makes a change to the thing. That's all.

To the person who asked the original question, think of these things as collectables. They're not necessary to compete the campaign, they add nothing to the plot, they're just an excuse to get you to walk around the gameplay areas once you're done with the story line.

It's a game, not everything needs a purpose. As long as it gives you a reason to run around and have fun, it's doing what it is supposed to.

Comparing the obelisks to collectibles is a pretty good description.

Yes. Yes it does. Otherwise there's no reason for it.

I can add to this statement: Yes, it does. And also leave a hint, if you look into third party forums outside Steam, you'll realize that there are quite a bunch of players dedicated to cracking the "whatever might be" thing that's behind the weirdest unexplained aspects in this game... I could quote the whole monologue that plays in one of the ending sequences, or even the fourth video in the theater, both of them hints at the game, the latter one having a monstruos ammount of connections to how the game works. Go figure...

The latest find that I made, came to me when I had the idea of playing this with my headphones on, then went to enjoy the ambient sounds... Try going to the town, stand on the top of the tower with the bell and listen carefully.
There are so much more to this, you wouldn't believe.

I thought it was just the obelisks that made the lake change. The fountains go higher with completed obelisks, one fountain per obelisk. Do the triangle puzzles change the lake, too?

Yea the flowers glow or something. It's all pointless, the entire game is pointless. There's so many times you'll find you already understand the rules of the puzzle and the only thing left is to just find every wrong answer to it. That's not a puzzle, that's a waste of time. The entire game is a waste of time that isn't satisfying in any way.

Ah, I see in a screenshot the little square lanterns aren't all lit at the start. That must be the triangle puzzles' doing. Thanks. So much in this game I didn't notice, but my graphics aren't great and I only get to play in bits and pieces over time. Hard to really take in all the little things like that. Never found the stick bugs on a rock, either.

I did enjoy the puzzles. I did not enjoy the first ending. I've yet to finish the challenge or see the second. Again, it's hard to have the time for it. I won't argue the game's pointlessness or time wasting potential. I'm pretty sure that'd be pointless ;-)

The lake is a map of the island. Each light box that is lit represents an activated laser. Each fountain that shoots upward represents a completed obelisk. Each open clam represents a completed video location puzzle. Each leaf represents the location of a discarded triangle panel. The leaf turns darker once you've completed it. Flowers represent audio log locations. Bloomed flowers show you've found it. And if they're yellow, it means they are underground. The statue of the woman is the mountain and becomes raised once you've "completed" the game.

The game is full of these cool details.
