Higher Price Might Hurt Profit
The Witness looks very interesting, and to puzzle game fans it's pure candy, but the more casual players don't seem to be willing to take the chance on the $40 price tag. I realise there are many fans more than happy to pay it, but if you look at the game's budget and the size of the dev team, they could just as easily make a profit from $20 bucks a pop, especially since having the price on par with most other indies would likely inspires more sales, especially people with only a casual interest or other people who were otherwise on the fence about The Witness.

Basically, as Ironic as it might seem, asking for more money might actually be hurting their profit, even if it's only slight.

It might. It might also increase profits. No one knows. No one will ever know.

It could also be that they aren't asking for enough money. If increasing the price to $60 meant only a few people chose not to buy it who would have bought at $40, then they gave up $20 per purchase for the majority of their customers.

Plus, anyone who really doesn't want to pay $40 can just wait for a sale.

Personally, I'd have paid $60 and been happy with the result, but I *feel* like $40 was a proper price for the game.

i think blow's already said something along the lines of the witness is well on track to sell more in it's first week than braid sold ever. so they're definitely not hurting for sales numbers at this point

Dude enough. Just because you're not willing to shell out 40$ for the witness, doesn't mean others aren't. The game is more than 30 hours long, which is more than most AA titles. And actually, the game is doing VERY well. It's outpacing Braid despite having only been out for about a week.

its worth it, this is a one of a kind game. We need to give games companies incentive to make new and original games. People like you are doing ea's handywork
